Developmentally regulated modifications of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in the central nervous system (CNS) have suggested that also in the CNS, these compounds might participate in morphogenesis and nerve cell differentiation. However very few studies have been reported concerning the regional distribution of these compounds by histochemical techniques. We have used the Alcian Blue staining method also in conjunction with enzymatic digestion and with a technique which allowed the measurement of the degree of GAG sulphatation. The combination of the three techniques showed that during the first week GAGs, presumed to be hyaluronic acid, are localized throughout the neuropile of the entire cerebellum and especially in the medullary region. Sulphated glycans appear later in the medullary region (particularly at the border between the medullary region and the internal granular layer) and in all the layers of cerebellum (in particular around the Purkinje and deep cerebellar nuclei neurons and possibly in the cerebellar glomeruli). Sulphated glycans in the medullary region disappear around the 12th day when myelination starts. The transient presence of glycoproteins in the molecular layer was also detected.

Whilst the world sees the tremendous growth of mobile phone technology, radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) induced possible health effects have emerged as a topic of recent day debate. The current study is designed to test the hypothesis that chronic 900MHz radiation exposure would potentially dysregulate the stress response system (HPA axis) in vivo, via, its non-thermal mechanisms, leading to alterations in the microarchitecture of the adrenal gland, vulnerable brain regions such as the hippocampus which may results in altered behaviours in rats. Male albino Wistar rats aged four weeks, weighing 50-60g were subjected to 900MHz radiation from a cellphone for four weeks at a rate of one hour per day.

Human calcitonin (hCT) is a peptide hormone that regulates calcium homeostasis, but its abnormal aggregation can disrupt physiological functions and increase the risk of medullary thyroid carcinoma. To elucidate the mechanisms underlying hCT aggregation, we investigated the self-assembly dynamics of hCT segments (hCT, hCT, and hCT) and the folding and dimerization of full-length hCT through microsecond atomistic discrete molecular dynamics (DMD) simulations. Our results revealed that hCT and hCT predominantly existed as isolated monomers with transient small-sized oligomers, indicating weak aggregation tendencies.

Background: Nephrocalcinosis is a common pathological finding in cats with chronic kidney disease and nephrolithiasis. Understanding its pathogenesis may identify future therapeutic targets.
Hypothesis: Nephrocalcinosis is associated with expression of an osteogenic phenotype.

Background: In humans and other mammals, the process of oogenesis initiates asynchronously in specific ovarian regions, leading to the localization of dormant and growing follicles in the cortex and medulla, respectively; however, the current understanding of this process remains insufficient.
Results: Here, we integrate single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatial transcriptomics (ST) to comprehend spatial-temporal gene expression profiles and explore the spatial organization of ovarian microenvironments during early oogenesis in pigs. Projection of the germ cell clusters at different stages of oogenesis into the spatial atlas unveils a "cortical to medullary (C-M)" distribution of germ cells in the developing porcine ovaries.

Background: Many unicameral bone cysts (UBC) can be resolved or treated conservatively. Managing persistent symptomatic UBCs in the humerus is particularly challenging. An effective surgical method with low complications is significant for treatment.
