Accidental ingestion of foreign bodies during dental procedures is relatively common, with the potential for serious complications, including intestinal perforations and severe pulmonary disorders. Our case report describes the prolonged, asymptomatic retention of a swallowed hex driver in the small bowel of a 38-year-old male, managed conservatively over an extended period. The patient, with a significant medical history of depression, was undergoing a dental procedure involving implant-supported restorations when the incident occurred.

Necrotising fasciitis (NF) is a rare surgical emergency characterised by soft tissue necrosis and systemic compromise. Typically it originates following adjacent skin and soft tissue insult; however, our unusual case required a high index of clinical suspicion to avert potential mortality. A man in his 60s with diabetes mellitus presented with 2 weeks of knee pain, swelling and necrotic skin on the posterior calf.

Internal hernias, including Left para duodenal Hernias (LPDH), are rare and challenging to diagnose due to their nonspecific symptoms and complex anatomical presentation. This report presents a unique case of a 29-year-old female with preoperatively diagnosed uncomplicated LPDH, complicated by distal bowel ischemia-a manifestation not extensively documented in existing literature. Initial imaging revealed dilated jejunal loops indicative of LPDH, with subsequent contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) showing ischemic changes in bowel segments distal to the hernia.

Bilberries are effective in inducing clinical, endoscopic, and biochemical improvement in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of anthocyanin-rich extract (ACRE), the bioactive ingredient of bilberries, in a controlled clinical trial in moderate-to-severe UC. A multi-center, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study with a parallel group was conducted.

Two-component signal transduction systems (TCSs) are nearly ubiquitous across bacterial species and enable bacteria to sense and respond to specific cues for environmental adaptation. The BumSR TCS is unusual in that the BumS sensor exclusively functions as a phosphatase rather than a kinase to control phosphorylated levels of its cognate BumR response regulator (P-BumR). We previously found that BumSR directs a response to the short-chain fatty acid butyrate generated by resident microbiota so that identifies ideal lower intestinal niches in avian and human hosts for colonization.
