Finite element modeling of clavicle fracture fixations: a systematic scoping review.

Med Biol Eng Comput

January 2025

Department of Orthopaedics, School of Medicine, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.

Finite element analysis has become indispensable for biomechanical research on clavicle fractures. This review summarized evidence regarding configurations and applications of finite element analysis in clavicle fracture fixation. Seventeen articles involving 22 clavicles were synthesized from CINAHL, Embase, IEEE Xplore, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases.

The effect of low energy LED red light on osteogenetic differentiation of periodontal ligament stem cell via the ERK5 signal pathway.

Lasers Med Sci

January 2025

The Department of Preventive Dentistry, The Affiliated Stomatological Hospital, Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, 646000, China.

The purpose of this study was to examine how low-energy LED red light influences the early to middle stage of osteogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) via the ERK5 signaling pathway.  METHODS: PDLSCs were extracted from periodontal membrane tissue using enzymatic digestion. At three time points of 7, 10, and 14 days after irradiation with 5J/cm LED red light, the expression levels of early to middle-stage osteogenic-related genes ALP, Col-1, BSP, and OPN were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR(qRT-PCR) in both control and osteogenesis experimental groups.

Background: Patients who incur an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and undergo ACL reconstruction (ACLR) have the intention of returning to sports at their pre-injury level; however, many do not return to the pre-injury level. This study aims to investigate the common factors that hinder patients from resuming sports activities following ACLR and to assess how these barriers impact their ability to return to sports. We hypothesized that patients' psychological factors, including fear of reinjury, would significantly influence their decision to return to sport after ACL reconstruction.

Wrist arthroscopy presents a significant learning curve, necessitating various precautions to avoid complications like tendon laceration or nerve injury. Arthroscopic procedures become even more challenging in arthritic wrists due to altered anatomy and reduced joint space, which in turn increase the risk of complications. In this review article, we offer tips and tricks to minimize these risks.

Understanding the Impacts of Surgical Drains on Postoperative Pain and Quality of Life.

Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open

January 2025

Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Surgery, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA.

Background: Surgical drains are commonly used in breast surgery and breast reconstruction for seroma prevention. Although many surgeons are aware that surgical drains can cause considerable discomfort to patients, less is understood about the specific impacts of drains on postoperative pain and quality of life (QOL).

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among patients at our institution who had previously undergone mastectomy or breast reconstruction procedures to better understand patients' experiences with surgical drains.
