The effects of nerve growth factor (NGF) from cobra venom (cvNGF) on growth of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cells inoculated subcutaneously in mice have been studied. The carcinoma growth slows down, but does not stop, during a course of cvNGF injections and restores after the course has been discontinued. The maximal anti-tumor effect has been observed at a dose of 8 nmoles cvNGF/kg body weight. cvNGF does not impact on lifespan of mice with grafted EAC cells. K252a, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, attenuates the anti-tumor effect of cvNGF indicating the involvement of TrkA receptors in the process. cvNGF has induced also increase in body weight of the experimental animals. In overall, cvNGF shows the anti-tumor and weight-increasing effects which are opposite to those described for mammalian NGF (mNGF). However in experiments on breast cancer cell line MCF-7 cvNGF showed the same proliferative effects as mNGF and had no cytotoxic action on tumor cells in vitro. These data suggest that cvNGF slows down EAC growth via an indirect mechanism in which TrkA receptors are involved.

Objective: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a complex neuropsychiatric condition influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Nerve growth factor (NGF) plays a crucial role in neuronal neuroplasticity and chronic alcohol consumption may alter NGF levels in specific brain regions. The study investigates the associations between NGF gene polymorphisms, susceptibility to AUD, and specific stress and personality characteristics.

The trigeminal ganglion is a critical structure in the peripheral nervous system, responsible for transmitting sensations of touch, pain, and temperature from craniofacial regions to the brain. Trigeminal ganglion development depends upon intrinsic cellular programming as well as extrinsic signals exchanged by diverse cell populations. With its complex anatomy and dual cellular origin from cranial placodes and neural crest cells, the trigeminal ganglion offers a rich context for examining diverse biological processes, including cell migration, fate determination, adhesion, and axon guidance.

The causal relationship between inflammatory factors and acute pancreatitis (AP), chronic pancreatitis (CP), alcohol-induced acute pancreatitis (AAP), and alcohol-induced chronic pancreatitis (ACP) remains unclear. We aimed to examine the casual relationship between inflammatory factors and various forms of pancreatitis, namely, AP, CP, AAP, and ACP. We employed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the causal relationship between 91 inflammatory factors and 41 inflammatory factors with respect to pancreatitis.

The aim is to explore the mechanisms underlying pain development in chronic prostatitis and identify therapeutic targets for pain management in patients with chronic prostatitis. RNA sequence of the spinal cord dorsal horns and proteomic analysis of spinal macrophages of experimental autoimmune prostatitis (EAP) mice were conducted to identify pain-related genes, proteins and signalling pathways. The clodronate liposome, CXCR3 and P-STAT3 inhibitors, NGF antibody and cromolyn sodium were used to investigate the roles of the CXCL10/CXCR3, JAK/STAT3 and NGF/TrKA pathways in spinal macrophage recruitment and pain response.

High copper levels pose a risk to environmental and human health due to their toxicity and widespread industrial application, in which abnormal copper levels are associated with various diseases both in neurodegenerative diseases and plant growth. Thus, a turn-on fluorescent probe BBYD-Cu, based on donor-acceptor type structure, was designed and synthesized with easy preparations. BBYD-Cu can specifically recognized Cu by 2-picolinic ester group, then released the fluorophore to enhance the fluorescent signals.
