We investigated the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of small Co(n) clusters (n = 2-6) when they were endohedrally doped into Si₃₀C₃₀ nanocages using ab initio calculations based on density functional theory. Two different spin-polarized functionals based on the generalized gradient and local density approximations were used to characterize Co(n)@Si₃₀C₃₀. It was found that the Co(n) clusters encapsulated inside Si₃₀C₃₀ nanocages can form stable structures due to their significant binding energies. Among the various encapsulated clusters studied, the Co₄ cluster was the most stable in a Si₃₀C₃₀ nanocage. We also found that the magnetic moments of the clusters decreased during the encapsulation process due to substantial hybridization between the cobalt cluster and the Si₃₀C₃₀ nanocage structure, although the encaged Co₂ cluster presented somewhat different behavior. It was found that significant magnetic moments are induced in the wall of the nanocage, and that Co(n)@Si₃₀C₃₀ presents higher total magnetic moments than Co(n)@C₆₀.

Ferritin nanocarriers, which can penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB), have gained significant research interest for the diagnosis and treatment of central nervous system (CNS) diseases, including gliomas, Alzheimer's disease, and brain metastases. In recent years, ferritin has been proved as a candidate to cross the BBB using receptor-mediated transcytosis (RMT) mechanism through transferrin receptor 1 (TfR1) which is overexpressed in the cells of the BBB. Various types of cargo molecules, including therapeutics, imaging agents, nucleic acids, and metal nanoparticles, have been incorporated into ferritin nanocages for the diagnosis and treatment of CNS diseases.

Immunogenic cell death (ICD) offers a promising avenue for the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). However, optimizing immune responses remains a formidable challenge. This study presents the design of RBCm@Pt-CoNi layered double hydroxide (RmPLH), an innovative sonosensitizer for sonodynamic therapy (SDT), aimed at enhancing the efficacy of programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors by inducing robust ICD responses.

Phosphorescent gold(iii) complexes possess long-lived emissive excited states, making them ideal for use as molecular sensors and photosensitizers for organic transformations. Literature reports indicate that gold(iii) emitters exhibit good catalytic activity in homogeneous photochemical reactions. Heterogeneous metal-organic framework (MOF)-supported gold(iii) photocatalysts are considered to show high recyclability in photochemical reactions and potentially provide new selectivities.

The potential applicability of the C nanocage and its boron nitride-doped analogs (CBN and CBN) as pyrazinamide (PA) carriers was investigated using density functional theory. Geometry optimization and energy calculations were performed using the B3LYP functional and 6-31G(d) basis set. Besides, dispersion-corrected interaction energies were calculated at CAM (Coulomb attenuated method)-B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) and M06-2X/6-31G(d,p) levels of theory.

Photocatalytic CO reduction technology plays a significant role in the energy and environmental sectors, highlighting the necessity for developing high-efficiency and stable catalysts. In this study, a novel photocatalyst, xNiCoO/CN (x = 1, 3, and 5 wt%), was synthesized by depositing zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67)-derived nickel cobaltate (NiCoO) hollow nanocages onto porous graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN, CN) nanosheets for photocatalytic CO reduction. Under visible light irradiation, the resulting 3NiCoO/CN photocatalyst demonstrated exceptional CO yields of up to 2879.
