Moderate PM exposure increases prostate cancer: a longitudinal nationwide cohort study (2010-2020).

Front Public Health

January 2025

College of Liberal Arts, Dankook University, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, Republic of Korea.

Introduction: Fine dust exposure has been reported to affect patients with prostate cancer, making it crucial to understand how environmental pollutants impact health. This study aimed to determine the risk of prostate cancer in South Korea associated with moderate levels of fine dust (PM) exposure.

Methods: We analyzed data from 20,430 individuals in the National Health Insurance Sharing Service database from 2010 to 2020, comparing a new prostate cancer group ( = 4,071, 19.

Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNGs) have been theoretically proven to be able to generate completely unpredictable random sequences, and have important applications in many fields. However, the practical implementation of QRNG is always susceptible to the unwanted classical noise or device imperfections, which inevitably diminishes the quality of the generated random bits. It is necessary to perform the post-processing to extract the true quantum randomness contained in raw data generated by the entropy source of QRNG.

Comparison of One-Drill Protocol to Sequential Drilling In Vitro and In Vivo.

Bioengineering (Basel)

January 2025

School of Engineering, Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY 11794, USA.

This study compares the heat generated during bone drilling using different protocols and implant systems, first in vitro and then in vivo with an animal model. In the experimental phase, thermal data were collected using an infrared camera while preparing implant beds in bone similes. The heat generated by a one-drill protocol with a new-generation drill bit and the Straumann BLT sequential drilling protocol was evaluated.

Background: The wide distribution of phlebotomine vectors complicates the leishmaniasis situation in the world, with the risk of spreading from rural to urban areas. Our study investigates for the first time the ecology and distribution of sand fly populations in leishmaniasis focus (Djelfa, Algeria).

Methods: Sampling is performed using light traps from August 2021 to July 2022 at ten sites with different biotopes: two peri-urban stations (Ain Oussera and Hassi Bahbah), one urban station (Djelfa), and three rural stations (Ain El-Bel, Haniet Ouled Salem and Mlaga).

Photoactive complexes of bioessential 3d metals, activable within the phototherapeutic window (650-900 nm), have gained widespread interest due to their therapeutic potential. Herein, we report the synthesis, characterization, and light-enhanced anticancer and antibacterial properties of four new dinuclear Co(II) complexes: [Co(phen)(cat)] (Co-1), [Co(dppz)(cat)] (Co-2), [Co(phen)(esc)] (Co-3), and [Co(dppz)(esc)] (Co-4). In these complexes, phen (1,10-phenanthroline) and dppz (dipyrido[3,2-:2',3'-]phenazine) act as neutral N,N-donor ligands, while cat and esc serve as O,O-donor catecholate ligands derived from catechol (1,2-dihydroxybenzene) and esculetin (6,7-dihydroxy coumarin).
