Background: The HMG-CoA reductase is key enzyme of cholesterol biosynthesis which potentially contributes in management of hypercholesterolemia. The present study was designed to assess the inhibitory effect of phytoconstituents of an ethanolic extract of Prosopis cineraria pods on HMG - CoA reductase and regression potential of atherosclerotic plaque.
Methods: Healthy, adult male, albino rabbits in which hypercholesterolemia was induced by supplying the high fat diet and a supplement of cholesterol powder with coconut oil (500 mg/5 ml/Day/kg body weight) for 15 days, were used as a disease model.

Background: This study investigates the therapeutic potential of urothelin A in attenuating atherosclerotic lesion in wistar rat models and explore the role of Scavenger receptor-class B type I (SR-BI) and activation of Nrf-2 singling pathway.
Methods: Wistar rats (n=48) were feed with high cholesterol diet supplemented with Vitamin D3 and subjected to balloon injury of the aorta. Three days prior to the aortal injury, rats (n=16) were administered urothelin A (3mg/kg/d; po).

Background: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the artery wall where both innate and adaptive immunity play important roles. Modulation of the immune response against the stress protein antigen, heat shock protein (HSP) 60, by administration of mycobacterial HSP65 (mbHSP65) orally and/or nasally shows promising therapeutic results in young animals in the sense of less severe experimental atherosclerosis; however, the case of aged animals with already established atherosclerosis has so far never been investigated.
Objective: To investigate if mbHSP65 immunization would further accelerate atherosclerotic progression in aged ApoE-/- mice (18 months old) with already long-established atherosclerosis and if these mice could be orally tolerized against mbHSP65.

Objective: To examine the effect of H2S donor, sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS), on ET-1 level in plasma and aorta in rats with atherosclerosis (AS).
Method: Thirty male rats, weighting 200-220 g, were randomly divided into AS, AS+NaHS and control groups, n = 10 in each group.Rats were given a single dose of vitamin D3 (700 000 U/kg) in the first three days and fed with a high-cholesterol diet for 8 weeks to induce AS.
