Global concerns about drug-resistant bacteria have underscored the need for new antimicrobial drugs. Emerging strategies in drug discovery include considering the third factors that influence drug activity. These factors include host-derived elements, adjuvants, and drug combinations, which are crucial in regulating antimicrobial efficacy.

Article Synopsis
  • Contezolid, a new oxazolidinone antibacterial drug, shows stronger effectiveness than linezolid with fewer side effects like bone marrow suppression, but there is limited clinical data on its use for tuberculosis patients.
  • A case study on an elderly patient with renal insufficiency revealed that contezolid effectively improved tuberculosis symptoms and led to significant absorption of fluid and reduction of lung issues, although hemoglobin levels dropped and did not recover post-treatment.
  • The pharmacokinetic analysis showed specific trough and peak concentrations of contezolid after administration, confirming its safety and efficacy in multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, particularly in elderly individuals with renal issues.

Electronic address:

Oxidative stress plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of several neurodegenerative diseases. Retinal degeneration causes irreversible death of photoreceptor cells, ultimately leading to vision loss. Under oxidative stress, the synthesis of bioactive sphingolipid ceramide increases, triggering apoptosis in photoreceptor cells and leading to their death.

March 2024

Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health and Key Laboratory of Public Health Safety, Fudan University, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the association between drug exposure and adverse events (AEs) during the standardized multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment, as well as to identify predictive drug exposure thresholds.

Methods: We conducted a prospective, observational multicenter study among participants receiving standardized MDR-TB treatment between 2016 and 2019 in China. AEs were monitored throughout the treatment and their relationships to drug exposure (e.
