Objective: To investigate the prevalence characters of dyslipidemia and borderline dyslipidemia in aging residents from Beijing communities and to evaluate the relative risk of cardiovascular risk factor (CRF) to dyslipidemia.

Methods: The samples were selected by random cluster multistage method. Serum lipid level and CRF were determined through questionnaire, physical examination and biochemical detection for 1974 subjects who was 65 and over 65 years old in Beijing communities.

Results: Age- and sex-adjusted standardized incidence of dyslipidemia and borderline dyslipidemia in ≥ 65 yrs was 35.11% (693/1974) and 28.57% (564/1974) respectively, optimal lipid was 36.32% (717/1974).Vs optimal status 3 borderline factors(BF) , 1 major CRF, 2 CRFs, and 3 CRFs to have dyslipidemia, the relative risks are OR = 1.537, 95%CI 0.597-3.959, OR = 1.898, 95%CI 0.993-3.628, OR = 2.441, 95%CI 1.268-4.698, and OR = 4.256, 95%CI 2.104-8.608 respectively.

Conclusions: The prevalence of major CRFs of ≥ 65 yrs resident from Beijing communities are higher than the average level of China. The risk is higher while the number of borderline and major CRFs much more.

Background: Universal lipid screening in childhood for early detection and treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia is under discussion, but will also detect children with multifactorial dyslipidemia. Results from population-based studies can support the design of public health strategies. As few previous studies considered pubertal changes in serum lipid levels, we examined tracking of serum lipids from prepuberty to young adulthood in a population-based cohort.

The PALISADE trial extended the data available for inhibition of apolipoprotein (apo) C3 inhibition for treating severe hypertriglyceridemia. 75 patients with persistent chylomicronemia were allocated to 2 doses of plozasiran or placebo. Triglycerides were reduced by a net 53%-58%, and a borderline significant 17% reduction was seen in pancreatitis events.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the clinical and metabolic characteristics of mixed features (MFs) in individuals with bipolar disorder (BD), focusing on those experiencing bipolar depression or mania/hypomania.
  • The research included 163 inpatients from May 2020 to July 2023, using various scales and diagnostic tools to analyze symptom severity and metabolic conditions.
  • Findings revealed that MFs were linked to anxious distress and obesity, with a tendency to occur less in severely ill patients, suggesting these factors could enhance the assessment and management of MFs in BD.
