Ternary and senary representations using DNA double-crossover tiles.

The information capacity of DNA double-crossover (DX) tiles was successfully increased beyond a binary representation to higher base representations. By controlling the length and the position of DNA hairpins on the DX tile, ternary and senary (base-3 and base-6) digit representations were realized and verified by atomic force microscopy. Also, normal mode analysis was carried out to study the mechanical characteristics of each structure.

Xenobiotics never appear as single, isolated substances in the environment but instead as multi-component mixtures. However, our understanding of the ecotoxicology of mixtures is far from sufficient. In this study, three active pharmaceutical ingredients (carbamazepine, diclofenac, and ibuprofen) and three pesticides (S-metolachlor, terbuthylazine, and tebuconazole) from the most frequently detected emerging micropollutants were examined for their acute cytotoxicity, both individually and in combination, by bioluminescence inhibition in (NRRL B-11177).

Human cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) is a major drug-metabolizing enzyme that shows extreme substrate promiscuity. Moreover, its large and malleable active site can simultaneously accommodate several substrate molecules of the same or different nature, which may lead to cooperative binding and allosteric behavior.
