Identifying the objects embedded in natural scenes relies on recurrent processing between lower and higher visual areas. How is cortical feedback information related to objects and scenes organised in lower visual areas? The spatial organisation of cortical feedback converging in early visual cortex during object and scene processing could be retinotopically specific as it is coded in V1, or object centred as coded in higher areas, or both. Here, we characterise object and scene-related feedback information to V1.

Studying subjective experience is hard. We believe that pain is not identical to nociception, nor pleasure a computational reward signal, nor fear the activation of "threat circuitry". Unfortunately, introspective self-reports offer our best bet for accessing subjective experience, but many still believe that introspection is "unreliable" and "unverifiable".

Ageism has been recognized as a global problem leading to poorer health, isolation, and workplace discrimination toward people based on their age. Consequently, there are several tools that measure levels and types of ageism with a focus on the quantification of degrees and types of ageism. While such quantification is valuable, this paper describes the development of an inventory, created over four stages, designed to foster introspective and collaborative thinking about age-directed values.

Developing an understanding of how microbial communities vary across conditions is an important analytical step. We used 16S rRNA data isolated from human stool samples to investigate whether learned dissimilarities, such as those produced using unsupervised decision tree ensembles, can be used to improve the analysis of the composition of bacterial communities in patients suffering from Crohn's disease and adenomas/colorectal cancers. We also introduce a workflow capable of learning dissimilarities, projecting them into a lower dimensional space, and identifying features that impact the location of samples in the projections.

Propolis is a resinous compound made by bees with well-known biological activity. However, comparisons between encapsulated and non-encapsulated propolis are lacking. Therefore, the antibacterial activity, effect on the phase transition of lipids, and inhibition of UV-induced lipid oxidation of the two forms of propolis were compared.
