Wound closure requires deep understanding of wound physiology, anatomy, and the healing phase of the wound. The basic principles of wound closure, diabetes control, normal nutrition status, infection control, mechanical stress avoidance, and nursing care are all important elements in achieving healing of acute and chronic wounds. This goal is achievable only through the interdisciplinary approach to wound healing. A number of wound closure techniques are available to the plastic surgeon. This armamentarium includes a variety of techniques, from simple primary wound closure to more-sophisticated and -costly flap reconstructive techniques. This article summarizes the components of the reconstructive ladder for wound closure that are available to the reconstructive surgeon.

Diabetic wounds are characterized by chronic inflammation, reduced angiogenesis, and insufficient collagen deposition, leading to impaired healing. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSC) offer a promising cell-free therapeutic strategy, yet their efficacy and immunomodulation can be enhanced through bioactivation. In this study, we developed calcium silicate (CS)-stimulated ADSC-derived EVs (CSEV) incorporated into collagen hydrogels to create a sustained-release system for promoting diabetic wound healing.

Diabetic wounds are complicated by underlying peripheral vasculopathy. Reliance on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy to improve perfusion makes logical sense, yet clinical study outcomes on rescuing diabetic wound vascularization have yielded disappointing results. Our previous work has identified that low endothelial phospholipase Cγ2 (PLCγ2) expression hinders the therapeutic effect of VEGF on the diabetic ischemic limb.

The hydrogels' morphological properties, in vitro release profiles, antibacterial efficacy, and safety were investigated. Hydrogels were prepared from PCL/Ag, PCL/Lin, and PCL/Ag/Lin formulations and applied to infected wounds.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the impact of absorbable subcutaneous staples for skin closure in cesarean delivery (CD) on maternal morbidity.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at a single tertiary university-affiliated medical center between January 2011 and April 2022. In 2020, a new technique involving absorbable subcutaneous staples for skin closure in CD was introduced.
