Article Abstract

Static and dynamic critical behavior of the easy-plane antiferromagnet CsMnF3 have been studied by means of a high-resolution ac photopyroelectric calorimeter. Thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity and specific heat have been carefully measured in the near vicinity of the antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition (51.1 K). Specific heat and thermal diffusivity show singularities at the Néel temperature while thermal conductivity does not. Both the static and dynamic critical parameters agree with the standard 3D-XY universality class (α = -0.014, A⁺/A⁻ = 1.06): for specific heat α = -0.016, A⁺/A⁻ = 1.09 and for thermal diffusivity b = -0.010, U⁺/U⁻ = 1.09. As the dynamic critical behavior of thermal diffusivity has not yet been theoretically established for the 3D-XY universality class, an approximate equation relating static and dynamic critical parameters has been obtained for it, leading to b ≈ α and A⁺/A⁻ ≈ U⁺/U⁻ by studying the asymptotic behavior of the functions. This equation has also been experimentally verified for another XY antiferromagnet (SmMnO₃). As an easy-plane antiferromagnet with a hexagonal structure, CsMnF₃ could have been expected to comply with the 3D-XY chiral class (α = +0.34, A⁺/A⁻ = 0.36) (as is the case of CsMnBr₃), but the experimental results rule out that possibility. This is attributed to the presence of a small in-plane anisotropy of the spins in CsMnF₃, which breaks the chiral degeneracy of the 120° spin structure.

Among the factors, such as emotions, that distort time perception, vestibular stimulation causes a contraction in subjective time. Unlike emotions, the intensity of vestibular stimulation can be easily and precisely modified, making it possible to study the quantitative relationship between stimulation and its effect on time perception. We hypothesized that the contraction of subjective time would increase with the vestibular stimulation magnitude.

As the core of leaf functional traits, the trade-off relationship between the petiole and lamina expresses the plant's adaptability to the environment in terms of support structure and photosynthesis. We investigated the proportions of allometric growth in the relationship between the petiole and the lamina of broadleaf woody plants in temperate highland Tianshan Mountains montane forests through three dimensions (length, area, and mass), including the length of the lamina (LL) and the length of the petiole (PL), and the area of the lamina (LA) and petiole cross sectional area (PCA) versus the mass of the lamina (LM) and the mass of the petiole (PM), as well as exploring the characteristics of the variance in response to seasonal changes. We found that the functional traits in all three dimensions showed a clear convergent evolution as the seasons progressed, that is, a "seasonal effect" of increasing and then decreasing.

Dispersive nodal fermions along grain boundaries in Floquet topological crystals.

Driven quantum materials often feature emergent topology, otherwise absent in static crystals. Dynamic bulk-boundary correspondence, encoded by nondissipative gapless modes residing near the Floquet zone center and/or boundaries, is its most prominent example. Here we show that topologically robust gapless dispersive modes appear along the grain boundaries, embedded in the interior of Floquet topological crystals, when the Floquet-Bloch band inversion occurring at a finite momentum ( ) and the Burgers vector ( ) of the constituting array of dislocations satisfy (modulo ).

Aging of the human brain involves intricate biological processes, resulting in complex changes in structure and function. While the effects of aging on gray matter (GM) connectivity are extensively studied, white matter (WM) functional changes have received comparatively less attention. This study examines age-related WM functional dynamics using resting-state fMRI across the adult lifespan.

Liquid Active Surface Growth: Explaining the Symmetry Breaking in Liquid Nanoparticles.

In our previous studies of metal nanoparticle growth, we have come to realize that the dynamic interplay between ligand passivation and metal deposition, as opposed to static facet control, is responsible for focused growth at a few active sites. In this work, we show that the same underlying principle could be applied to a very different system and explain the abnormal growth modes of liquid nanoparticles. In such a liquid active surface growth (LASG), the interplay between droplet expansion and simultaneous silica shell encapsulation gives rise to an active site of growth, which eventually becomes the long necks of nanobottles.
