While tetracyclines are in active medical use, their bioactive atomic compositions are still questionable. Here, we investigate the structural properties of neutral tetracycline in dimethyl sulfoxide - the environment used often to mimic the environment in vivo. We compare the measured linear and nonlinear infrared spectra to those calculated for a collection of stable and energetically plausible tautomers, and describe the structurally sensitive off-diagonal peaks using anharmonicities of the normal modes. The comparison of experimental and theoretical 2DIR spectra is consistent with the numerical predictions of statistical thermodynamics on the relative weights of possible tautomers. In result, we provide the systematic account of the structural realizations of neutral tetracycline in DMSO.

Regarding the coexistence of heavy metals and organic pollutants, many studies have achieved synergistic removal of Cr(VI) and organic pollutants under acidic conditions. However, the role of Cr(VI) in the removal of organic pollutants under neutral conditions may have been overlooked. Here, the catalytic effect of Cr(VI) in promoting the photoelectrocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants was investigated using a ternary system, which was a combination of photocatalysis, electrocatalysis and Cr(VI) catalysis.

In this study, we selected polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE), and polystyrene (PS) as representative microplastics (MPs) to systematically investigate the sorption behavior of tetracycline (TC) antibiotics by MPs. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, and adsorption experiments were applied to assess the sorption behavior of MPs. The results demonstrated that the sorption of TC by MPs was most favorable under neutral conditions, where a modest increase in the salt ion concentration enhanced the adsorption of TC by MPs.

Introduction: Vasospasm has been reported as the most important cause of mortality and morbidity in patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) who can reach the hospital. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a gene family, which are called neutral proteases in the central nervous system (CNS). In this experimental study we studied the upregulation of MMPs (MMP-8, MMP-9, and MMP-13) gene expression and the inhibitor effects of doxycycline after experimental SAH model in rats.

Fe-based metal-organic frameworks (Fe-MOFs) have been used to catalyze the degradation of organic pollutants; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we prepared Fe-MOF catalysts featuring a three-dimensional ordered structure and active Fe-N coordination centers using self-designed polypyrazole compounds as ligands. Because the coordination centers are similar to the classical single-atom Fe-N active neutral structure, Fe-MOFs exhibit excellent performance in activating hydrogen peroxide (HO) and peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of antibiotics.
