Corynebacterium maris Coryn-1(T) Ben-Dov et al. 2009 is a member of the genus Corynebacterium which contains Gram-positive, non-spore forming bacteria with a high G+C content. C. maris was isolated from the mucus of the Scleractinian coral Fungia granulosa and belongs to the aerobic and non-haemolytic corynebacteria. It displays tolerance to salts (up to 10%) and is related to the soil bacterium Corynebacterium halotolerans. As this is a type strain in a subgroup of Corynebacterium without complete genome sequences, this project, describing the 2.78 Mbp long chromosome and the 45.97 kbp plasmid pCmaris1, with their 2,584 protein-coding and 67 RNA genes, will aid the G enomic E ncyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea project.

To successfully mount infections, nearly all bacterial pathogens must acquire iron, a key metal cofactor that primarily resides within human hemoglobin. causes the life-threatening respiratory disease diphtheria and captures hemoglobin for iron scavenging using the surface-displayed receptor HbpA. Here, we show using X-ray crystallography, NMR, and in situ binding measurements that selectively captures iron-loaded hemoglobin by partially ensconcing the heme molecules of its α subunits.

Currently, bacterial classification at the species level relies on the 95-96% average nucleotide identity (ANI) value that is known to be equivalent to a 70% digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) value. However, during the routine identification of bacteria in the uteri of camels with a history of conception failure, we found that four out of the seven strains (2298A, 2569A, 2652, 2571B, 1103A, 2571A, and 335C) could not be assigned to any valid species. Furthermore, a 70% dDDH value did not correspond to a 95-96% ANI value in strain 2569A.

Unlabelled: The bacterium is an opportunistic pathogen that can cause lung, skin, wound, joint, urinary tract, and eye infections. While is known to exhibit a robust competitive response toward other bacterial species, this bacterium is frequently identified in polymicrobial infections where multiple species survive. For example, in prosthetic joint infections, can be identified along with other pathogenic bacteria including , , and .

Ectoine is a valuable compatible solute with extensive applications in bioengineering, cosmetics, medicine, and the food industry. While certain halophilic bacteria can naturally produce ectoine, as a model organism for biomanufacturing, offers significant advantages to be engineered for potentially high-level ectoine production. However, complex metabolic flux distributions and byproduct formation present bottlenecks that limit ectoine production in .

The research took place on a farm in North-Eastern Romania with Holstein Friesian cows aged between 3 and 9 years. Bacteriological investigations were carried out throughout the year 2023, on a total of 35 cows, including 25 multiparous cows and 10 primiparous cows, 23 cows had eutocic parturitions and 12 cows had dystocic parturitions, during the first 3 weeks postpartum. In the case of dystocic parturition, biological samples yielded isolates including 9.
