Objectives: Phaeohyphomycosis refers to infections caused by phaeoid/dematiaceous or darkly pigmented fungi. This study was undertaken to further increase our knowledge about the incidence of phaeohyphomycosis and its causative agents.
Materials And Methods: The present study was conducted over a period of one and a half years (January 2018-June 2019) on specimens received from patients with varied clinical manifestations ranging from superficial infections, subcutaneous cysts, pneumonia, brain abscess to a disseminated infection.

Many species of dematiaceous fungi are associated with allergic reactions and potentially fatal diseases in human, especially in tropical climates. Over the past 10 years, we have isolated more than 400 dematiaceous fungi from various clinical samples. In this study, DemaDb, an integrated database was designed to support the integration and analysis of dematiaceous fungal genomes.

A 36-year-old African American female with a 14-year history of allergic fungal sinusitis (AFS) presented with progressive worsening headache, fevers, proptosis, and a large frontal lobe brain mass. After excisional biopsy, the non-invasive, dematiaceous mold, Bipolaris australiensis, was identified. We review the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and clinical presentations of fungal sinusitis, as well as the complex management and multifaceted therapeutic modalities of AFS.
