Graphene/inorganic hybrid structures have attracted increasing attention in research aimed at producing advanced optoelectronic devices and sensors. Herein, we report on aerosol synthesis of new graphene-embedded zinc oxide (ZnO) films with higher optical transparency (>80% at visible wavelengths), improved electrical conductivity (>2 orders of magnitude, ∼ 20 kΩ/□), and enhanced photoluminescence (∼ 3 times), as compared to bare ZnO film. The ZnO/graphene composite films, in which reduced graphene oxide nanoplatelets (∼ 4 nm thick) are embedded in nanograined ZnO (∼ 50 nm in grain size), were fabricated from colloidal suspensions of graphene oxide with an aqueous zinc precursor. These new luminescent ZnO/graphene composites, with high optical transparency and improved electrical conductivity, are promising materials for use in optoelectronic devices.

W-doped ZnO (WZO) films were deposited on glass substrates by using RF magnetron sputtering at different substrate bias voltages, and the relationships between microstructure and optical and electrical properties were investigated. The results revealed that the deposition rate of WZO films first decreased from 8.8 to 7.

In recent years, the morphology control of semiconductor nanomaterials has been attracting increasing attention toward maximizing their functional properties and reaching their end use in real-world devices. However, the development of easy and cost-effective methods for preparing large-scale patterned semiconductor structures on flexible temperature-sensitive substrates remains ever in demand. In this study, vapor post-treatment (VPT) is investigated as a potential, simple and low-cost post-preparative method to morphologically modify gravure-printed zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticulate thin films at low temperatures.

The use of metal oxide catalysts to enhance plasma CO reduction has seen significant recent development towards processes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and produce renewable chemical feedstocks. While plasma reactors are effective at producing the intended chemical transformations, the conditions can result in catalyst degradation. Atomic layer deposition (ALD) can be used to synthesize complex, hierarchically structured metal oxide plasma catalysts that, while active for plasma CO reduction, are potentially vulnerable to degradation due to their high surface area and nanoscopic thickness.

In this study, we report the synthesis, optical characterization and ultra-sensitive ammonia gas sensing properties of Mg-doped ZnO cauliflower like nanostructures obtained via chemical spray pyrolysis technique. The morphological and structural properties of the prepared films were investigated by Field Emission Scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Gas sensing and optical characterizations were carried out using Keithley electrometer and Uv-Vis.

One of the biggest challenges in food packaging is the creation of sustainable and eco-friendly packaging materials to shield foods from ultraviolet (UV) photochemical damage and to preserve the distinctive physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of foods throughout the supply chain. Accordingly, this study focuses on enhancing the UV shielding properties and biological activity of carboxylmethyl cellulose sodium (CMC) through modifications using zinc oxide (ZnO), copper oxide (CuO), and graphene oxide (GO) using the solution casting technique. The hybrid nanocomposites were characterized by fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer, ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and x-ray diffraction (XRD).
