Pineal cysts are benign, nonneoplastic lesions of the pineal gland, often identified incidentally on MRI scans. Although these cysts are usually asymptomatic, they can occasionally enlarge and compress adjacent structures, leading to neurological complications such as obstructive hydrocephalus and Parinaud's syndrome. The underlying mechanisms of pineal cyst development remain largely unclear, although inflammation - common in rheumatological conditions such as fibromyalgia - and mechanical stress have been suggested as contributing factors.

Exact exchange contributions included in density functional theory calculations have rendered excellent electronic structure results on both cold and extremely hot matter. In this work, we develop a mixed deterministic-stochastic resolution-of-the-identity compressed exchange (mRICE) method for efficient calculation of exact and hybrid electron exchange, suitable for applications alongside mixed stochastic-deterministic density functional theory. mRICE offers accurate calculations of the electronic structure at a largely reduced computation time compared to other compression algorithms, such as Lin's adaptive compressed exchange, for the warm dense matter.

Background: Primary mediastinal liposarcomas (PLMs) are extremely rare. Patients typically present with symptoms caused by tumor size, as the mass can compress surrounding tissues and organs. Here, we report a case of a large primary mediastinal liposarcoma that was successfully resected thoracoscopically.

Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) aims at restoring blood flow in case of acute ischemic stroke by removing the thrombus occluding a large cerebral artery. During the procedure with stent-retriever, the thrombus is captured within the device, which is then retrieved, subjecting the thrombus to several forces, potentially leading to its fragmentation. In silico studies, along with mechanical characterisation of thrombi, can enhance our understanding of the EVT, helping the development of new devices and interventional strategies.
