Background: To prospectively determine whether tympanoplasty for tympanic membrane perforation (TMP) in wet ears impacts recovery.
Methods: We prospectively enrolled 32 TMP patients (2021-2023) and divided them into the wet-ear (14 patients) and dry-ear groups (18 patients), according to the presence of middle-ear secretions/edema. All patients underwent high-resolution thin-slice computed tomography, ear endoscopy, and pure tone audiometry.

Objective: To examine implementation of virtual reality (VR) and Fitbit wearable activity devices in postoperative recovery.
Methods: This was a prospective, 4-arm, randomized controlled trial of patients undergoing inpatient head and neck surgery at a tertiary academic center from November 2021 to July 2022. Patients were randomized to Control, VR, Fitbit, or combined VR + Fitbit groups.

Understanding the droplet coalescence/merging is vital for many areas of microfluidics such as biochemical reactors, drug delivery, inkjet printing, oil recovery, etc. In the present study, we carried out numerical simulations of two magnetic droplets suspended in a nonmagnetic fluid matrix and coalescing under the influence of an external magnetic field. We observed that the applied magnetic field played a key role in the merging dynamics of the magnetic droplets.

Regional anesthesia is a popular method for surgical anesthesia in clavicular surgery. Selective blocking of the cervical 3, 4, and 5 nerve roots shows promise in clavicle surgery, with its fast onset, good anesthesia and less complications, necessitating evaluation of its impact on diaphragmatic function. The purpose of this study is to examine the safety of C3, 4, and 5 nerve root block for its application in clavicle surgery.

The ability of neurons to sense and respond to damage is crucial for maintaining homeostasis and facilitating nervous system repair. For some cell types, notably dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), extensive profiling has uncovered a significant transcriptional response to axon injury, which influences survival and regenerative outcomes. In contrast, the injury responses of most supraspinal cell types, which display limited regeneration after spinal damage, remain mostly unknown.
