Autofocusing technology is indispensable for routine use of microscopes on a large scale in biological field. The autofocusing method using the angle of Hilbert space is brought forward to measure whether the image is focused or not. The angle of Hillbert space can be used to evaluate accurately the similarity degree of two images. The experiment results show that the autofocusing method can decrease the computational cost and get accuracy for real-time biological and biomedical images with noise robustness. The focus curves are smooth and possess the unimodality, the monotonicity and the symmetry. Compared with other classic and optimum focus method, the Hilbert method demonstrates its robustness to noise and can improve the focus speed. The experiments showed that the proposed method can increase the overall performance of an autofocus system and has strong applicability in various autofocusing algorithms.

In this Letter, we propose a class of plasmon that exhibits properties such as autofocusing and self-bending. In a butterfly plasmon, several new dimensions of focus modulation are introduced. By adjusting its initial phase, the position, the length, the intensity, and the bending direction of the plasmonic focus can be precisely controlled, demonstrating a high degree of tunability.

Autofocusing beams have attracted widespread attention due to their advantages in optical trapping, but their propagation behavior in complex optical systems is still unclear. Here, we obtain the analytical propagation formulas for autofocusing beams through optical systems described by ABCD matrices. Foci adjustment through a lens and oscillate behavior in a parabolic potential medium of the beams are discussed.

We demonstrate arbitrarily shaped Mathieu bottle beams (MBBs) based on geometric factor design. By elaborately selecting elliptical trajectory parameters and corresponding orders, the MBBs can be tailored to diverse longitudinal and transversal shapes simultaneously. The proposed method breaks through the limitation that the components of conventional bottle beams can only self-accelerate along paraxial paths with fixed shapes.

The rapid increase in orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode size with increasing modal order, given the limited-size of the receiver, is a major impediment to high-capacity OAM mode multiplexing in practice. Based on the Pancharatnam-Berry (PB) phase theory, we correlate the change of the polarization state with the curvature of the wavefront isophase line in the source plane and manipulate the focusing ability of vector autofocusing Airy vortex beam (AAVB) by combining the isophase line curvature and the intensity gradient of the beam, which are two independent degrees of freedom. The present method enables flexible on-demand focusing of vector AAVBs in free space and is more effective in focusing higher order OAM modes, which can reduce the full-width at half maximum (FWHM) of the AAVB with topological charge l= 25 to 1/5 of that of the conventional scalar type.

Enhanced SAR Compression through Multi-Look Doppler Compensation and Auto-Focusing Technique.

This paper presents a simple and streamlined compensation technique for improving the quality of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images based on the Range Doppler Algorithm (RDA). Incorrect Doppler estimation in the space orbit, caused by unexpected radar motion errors, orbit mismatches, and other factors, can significantly degrade SAR image quality. These inaccuracies result in mismatches between the azimuth-matched filter and the received Doppler chirp signal.
