In this study, we report on the electrical response of top-down, p-type silicon nanowire field-effect transistors exposed to water and mixtures of water and dioxane. First, the capacitive coupling of the back gate and the liquid gate via an Ag/AgCl electrode were compared in water. It was found that for liquid gating smaller potentials are needed to obtain similar responses of the nanowire compared to back gating. In the case of back gating, the applied potential couples through the buried oxide layer, indicating that the associated capacitance dominates all other capacitances involved during this mode of operation. Next, the devices were exposed to mixtures of water and dioxane to study the effect of these mixtures on the device characteristics, including the threshold voltage (V(T)). The V(T) dependency on the mixture composition was found to be related to the decreased dissociation of the surface silanol groups and the conductivity of the mixture used. This latter was confirmed by experiments with constant conductivity and varying water-dioxane mixtures.

The present article attempts to interpret the modulation of photophysical properties of isophthalic acid (IPA) through its amino [5-amino isophthalic acid (5-amino IPA)] and azido [5-azido isophthalic acid (5-azido IPA)] substituted derivatives which are chemically potent organic ligands. The ground state structure-reactivity correlation of 5-amino IPA and 5-azido IPA has been deciphered through computational studies. The computed energetics show significant interaction feasibility of the substituted ligand systems with the biomimetic systems which is further validated experimentally.

Despite the vast array of solution- and solid-state bio-analytical, bioelectronic and optoelectronic applications of cationic polythiophenes (CPTs), the number of studies focused on the role of hydrogen bonding (H-bonding) between these and other molecules is scarce, regardless of whether H-bonding is expected to play an important role in several such applications. Also, despite the advantages of using cosolvents to systematically examine the molecular interactions, there are no such studies for CPTs to our knowledge. This work presents a steady-state UV-vis/fluorescence spectroscopic, kinetic and thermodynamic study on the H-bonding interactions between a water-soluble, cationic-anionic (isothiouronium-tetraphosphonate), polythiophene-fullerene donor-acceptor pair with two-point, charge-assisted H-bonding (CAHB) capabilities, tuned using water or a 1,4-dioxane-water mixture (W-DI).

Electronic nature and structure of aggregates of riboflavin molecules.

Spectrochim Acta A Mol Biomol Spectrosc

March 2021

Samarkand State University, University Blvd., 15, 140104 Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Aggregation process of riboflavin molecules in binary mixtures: water - dioxane, water - DMSO, and ethanol - isobutanol, were investigated using spectroscopic methods and quantum-chemical calculation. It was shown that at a constant concentration of riboflavin and different ratios of binary mixtures, a deformation of the electronic absorption spectra with a hypochromic effect is observed. The observed changes are caused by the formation of a hydrogen bond and dipole-dipole interaction between riboflavin molecules, which is accompanied by a shift and resonance splitting of excited electronic levels.

In this work, the self-assembly of a series of amphiphilic polystyrene--polyglycidol (PS--PGL) diblock copolymers in dioxane and dioxane/water mixtures is presented. The PS--PGL have an average degree of polymerization (DP) of PS block equal to 29 units and varied degrees of polymerization for the glycidol segments with DPs of 13, 42, 69 and 117. In dioxane, amphiphilic diblock copolymers form micelles with the hydrophilic PGL placed in the core.

Biomimetic systems trigger a benzothiazole based molecular switch to 'turn on' fluorescence.

Molecular switches are valuable tools for the detection of many chemical and biological processes. On the other hand, Schiff bases are known for their simplicity in synthesis and their enormous biochemical applications. In this scenario, when a strategically designed Schiff base acts as a molecular switch in biomimetic environments drags inevitable attention.
