Background: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of laparoscopic completion total gastrectomy (LCTG) in patients with remnant gastric cancer.
Methods: Patients who underwent completion total gastrectomy for remnant gastric cancer between May 2003 and December 2012 were divided into two groups: an open completion total gastrectomy (OCTG) group and an LCTG group. Clinicopathological data, operative data, and patient survival rates were analyzed.
Results: Thirty-four remnant gastrectomies (17 OCTG and 17 LCTG) were performed. The mean time interval between the prior gastrectomy and the remnant gastrectomy was 17.2 years, and benign disease showed a longer time interval than malignancy (30.9 vs. 8.1 years; p < 0.0001). LCTG required a longer operation time than OCTG (234.4 vs. 170.0 min; p = 0.002); however, there were no significant differences in the estimated blood loss, the number of retrieved lymph nodes, the time to first flatus passage, the length of hospital stay, complication rates, and postoperative analgesia between the two groups. Eight patients (47.1%) required conversion to open surgery during LCTG. The median overall survival was 69.1 months. There was no difference in 5-year survival between the two groups (p = 0.085).
Conclusion: LCTG was technically feasible; however, it showed no definitive clinical advantage over OCTG.

Introduction: The nasoseptal flap (NSF) has become a widely favoured choice for reconstructing skull base defects following the endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA). However, the exposed septal cartilage and bone at the donor site often require an extended duration for secondary healing. This study investigated whether the free middle turbinate (MT) mucosa grafting at the septal donor site could mitigate post-operative nasal morbidity.

ssp. is well known as a Cd hyperaccumulator. Yet, understanding how this plant survives in a high Cd environment without appearing toxicity signs is far from complete.

Background: Lower instrumented vertebra (LIV) selection for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) with structural lumbar curves (Lenke 3, 5, and 6) remains debated. The iliolumbar angle (ILA) measurement is useful for assessing the lumbosacral junction flexibility. If it is nonreducible, surgeons need to make a difficult choice between a potential "imperfect" L4, associated with a residual lumbosacral curve, or a more distal fusion performed later in life due to poorer functional outcomes.

Background And Aims: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) has a 22%-74% 28-day mortality rate and 30%-40% 30-day readmission rate. We investigated the acceptability and feasibility of a multimodal community intervention for ACLF.
Methods: A single-arm nonrandomized pilot study of consecutive participants with ACLF was conducted in a tertiary health service.

Carrot ( L.) is one of the most important root crops grown worldwide and in Ethiopia. However, its production and productivity are low due to a lack of improved varieties and unbalanced fertilizer rates, among other factors.
