Novel aza-BODIPYs with significant bathochromic shifts were designed and synthesized by installation of strong electron-withdrawing groups on the para-positions of 1,7-phenyls and electron-donating groups on the para-positions of 3,4-phenyls. These dyes show strong NIR fluorescence emissions up to 756 nm, and absorptions up to 720 nm.

The comprehensive understanding of the effect of the chemical environment surrounding active sites on the pathway for the electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (eCORR) is essential for the development of advanced catalysts for large-scale applications. Based on a series of model catalysts engineered by the coordination of copper ions with various isomers of phenylenediamine [i.e.

2-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole (HBT) derivatives with donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) structure have received extensive attention as a class of excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) compounds in the fields of biochemistry and photochemistry. The effects of electron-donors (triphenylamine and anthracenyl), the position of substituents and solvent polarity on the fluorescence properties and ESIPT mechanisms of HBT derivatives were investigated through time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations. Potential energy curves (PECs) and frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs) reveal that the introduction of the triphenylamine group on the benzene ring enhances intramolecular HB, thereby benefiting the ESIPT process.

The cascade aza-Prins/Friedel-Crafts reaction of homocinnamyloxycarbamate with electron-rich aromatic aldehydes has been successfully established. Most of the aromatic aldehydes react with the carbamate stereoselectively to generate -hydroindeno-1,2-oxazinanes. However, the cascade reactions of benzaldehydes bearing two methoxy groups at the -positions exhibit a unique stereochemical profile.

The scalable synthesis of figure-eight π-systems is challenging for the conventional bottom-up approach. We have recently reported that the oxidative inner-bond cleavage of commercially available dibenzo[g,p]chrysene efficiently furnishes a figure-eight π-acceptor, cyclobisbiphenylenecarbonyl (CBBC), in large quantity. Furthermore, its donor-acceptor-type derivative with four N-carbazolyl substituents at the meta-positions of the carbonyl groups exhibited thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) with a high |g| value of 1.

From the most prevalent cancers, breast and lung cancers have a meager survival rate for both men and women. These two cancers are related to each other. Breast cancer can possibly spread to the lungs or the region between the lung and the chest wall.
