In this paper, the microbial transformation of resibufogenin by Curvularia lunata AS 3.4381 was investigated, and four transformed products were isolated and characterized as 3-epi-resibufogenin (2), 12α-hydroxy-3-epi-resibufogenin (3), 12-oxo-16β-hydroxy-3-epi-resibufogenin (4), and 12β,15-epoxy-3-epi-bufalin-14,15-ene (5). Among them, 4 and 5 are new compounds, and isomerization, hydroxylation, and oxidation reactions in microbial transformation process were observed. Additionally, the cytotoxicities of transformed products (2-5) were also investigated.

The impact of straw and biochar on carbon mineralization and the function of carbon cycle genes in paddy soil is important for soil nutrient management and the transformation of carbon pools. This research is based on a five-year field experiment with four treatments: no fertilizer application (CK); chemical fertilizer only (NPK); straw combined with chemical fertilizer (NPKS); and biochar combined with chemical fertilizer (NPKB). By integrating indoor mineralization culture with metagenomic approaches, we analyzed the response of organic carbon mineralization and carbon cycle genes in typical paddy soil from Guizhou Province, China, to different fertilization treatments.

Distribution and Environmental Preference of Potential Mercury Methylators in Paddy Soils across China.

The neurotoxin methylmercury (MeHg) is produced mainly from the transformation of inorganic Hg by microorganisms carrying the gene pair. Paddy soils are known to harbor diverse microbial communities exhibiting varying abilities in methylating inorganic Hg, but their distribution and environmental drivers remain unknown at a large spatial scale. Using gene amplicon sequencing, this study examined Hg-methylating communities from major rice-producing paddy soils across a transect of ∼3600 km and an altitude of ∼1300 m in China.

Studies on the treatment of anaerobically digested sludge by white-rot fungi: evaluation of the effect of Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trametes versicolor.

Microb Cell Fact

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai, 200092, PR China.

Background: The composition of anaerobically digested sludge is inherently complex, enriched with structurally complex organic compounds and nitrogenous constituents, which are refractory to biodegradation. These characteristics limit the subsequent rational utilization of resources from anaerobically digested sludge. White-rot fungi (WRF) have garnered significant research interest due to their exceptional capacity to degrade complex and recalcitrant organic pollutants.

The riverine dissolved organic matter (DOM) pool constitutes the largest and most dynamic organic carbon reservoir within inland aquatic systems. Human activities significantly alter the distribution of organic matter (OM) in rivers, thereby affecting the availability of DOM. However, the impact of total suspended solids (TSS) on DOM under anthropogenic influence remains insufficiently elucidated.

One new azaphilone derivative () from in ordinary medium, one new phthalide derivative (), a microbial transformation product of ingredients by , a pair of new austdiol enantiomers (+)- and (-)-, one new epsilon-caprolactone derivative (), and one new ophiobolin-type sesterterpenoid () from the in host medium were reported. The structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds - could completely inhibit the germination of rice seeds at 50 μg/mL, which is higher than that of the positive control.
