Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is increasingly used in neonatal intensive care. We investigated the impact of skin, bone, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) layer thickness in term and preterm infants on absorption-(μa) and/or reduced scattering coefficients (μs') measured by multidistance frequency-domain (FD)-NIRS. Transcranial ultrasound was performed to measure the layer thicknesses. Correlations were only statistically significant for μa at 692 nm with bone thickness and μs' at 834 nm with skin thickness. There is no evidence that skin, bone, or CSF thickness have an important effect on μa and μs'. Layer thicknesses of skin, bone, and CSF in the range studied do not seem to affect cerebral oxygenation measurements by multidistance FD-NIRS significantly.

Purpose: Osseointegration-associated infections are a critical barrier to widespread implementation of osseointegrated (OI) prosthetics. To address this challenge, a preclinical animal model must exist of the human model to test potential interventions. In this article, we describe a novel rabbit model of OI implant-related infection that can act as a platform for rapid translation and development of therapeutic approaches to combat these uniquely challenging infections.

Background: The current development of gynecology services for children and adolescents seeks to meet needs both in the overall population and in patients with rare diseases. In France, the referral center for rare gynecological diseases specializes in four major types of conditions, namely, uterovaginal malformations, hereditary hemorrhagic diseases, rare benign breast diseases, and gynecological repercussions of rare chronic diseases.
Objective: To describe consecutive patients who had a first visit in 2018-2023 at the referral center for rare gynecological diseases at the Necker Pediatric University Hospital in Paris, France, and who were diagnosed with a condition in any of the four categories listed above.
