We study the synthesis and electrochemical and mechanical performance of layered free-standing papers composed of acid-exfoliated few-layer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) flakes for use as a self-standing flexible electrode in sodium-ion batteries. Synthesis was achieved through vacuum filtration of homogeneous dispersions consisting of varying weight percent of acid-treated MoS2 flakes in GO in DI water, followed by thermal reduction at elevated temperatures. The electrochemical performance of the crumpled composite paper (at 4 mg cm(-2)) was evaluated as counter electrode against pure Na foil in a half-cell configuration. The electrode showed good Na cycling ability with a stable charge capacity of approximately 230 mAh g(-1) with respect to total weight of the electrode with Coulombic efficiency reaching approximately 99%. In addition, static uniaxial tensile tests performed on crumpled composite papers showed high average strain to failure reaching approximately 2%.

In this paper, we offer a unique green synthetic approach for producing iron sulfide quantum dots (FeS QD)-chitosan composites using gel chemistry. The technique uses the environmental features of chitosan, a biocompatible and biodegradable polysaccharide, and the excellent electrical properties of FeS QDs. By sustainable chemistry principles, the synthesis process is carried out under gentle settings, using aqueous solutions and avoiding hazardous solvents and strong chemicals.

Although the role of breast milk in promoting neonatal growth and maintaining intestinal homeostasis is well established, underlying mechanisms by which it protects the intestine from damage remain to be elucidated. Human breast milk-derived exosomes (HMDEs) are newly discovered active signaling vesicles with a diameter of 30-150 nm, which are key carriers of biological information exchange between mother and child. In addition, due to their ability to cross the gastrointestinal barrier, low immunogenicity, good biocompatibility and stability, HMDEs play an important role in regulating intestinal barrier integrity in newborns.

Spaceflight occurs under extreme environmental conditions that pose significant risks to the physical and mental health and well-being of astronauts. Certain factors, such as prolonged isolation, monotony, disrupted circadian rhythms, heavy workload, and weightlessness in space, can trigger psychological distress and may contribute to a variety of mental health problems, including mood and anxiety disturbances. Recent findings regarding spaceflight-associated alterations in cerebrospinal fluid spaces, demonstrating enlargement of the brain's perivascular spaces from preflight to postflight, at least suggest reduced glymphatic clearance in microgravity, and have raised concerns about long-term cognitive health in astronauts.

The paper presents the variations of space radiation (primary and secondary galactic cosmic rays (GCR) absorbed dose rate in silicon and flux) measured during the first-ever commercial suborbital flight of the Virgin Galactic (VG) SpaceShipTwo Unity on 29 June 2023. A Portable Dosimeter-Spectrometer Liulin-CNR-VG is used. It is developed in the Space Research and Technology Institute, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (SRTI-BAS) under a scientific contract with National Research Council of Italy (CNR), Italy.

Three French harbours connected to different water masses of the English Channel were chosen to investigate the hydrological parameters, chemical contaminants, and biofouling characteristics for 15 months. The biofouling development on two kinds of coatings, an anticorrosion coating (Epoxy) and a foul-release coating (FRC), was studied to compare micro- and macro- biofouling in harbour environments. Biofouling was investigated by considering wet biofouling biomass and composition, microalgae concentration, and bacterial abundance.
