Nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryltrimethylammonium triflates and amines was carried out under mild conditions. The reaction has a broad scope of substrates and can be performed by a one-pot procedure from an aryldimethylamine.

Enantioenriched α-aminoketones serve as important substructures in life science and precursors for the synthesis of diverse value-added targets in organic and biochemistry. However, direct access to enantioenriched α-aminoketones from simple and readily available starting materials remains a formidable challenge. Herein, we report an unprecedented nickel-catalyzed asymmetric cross-coupling protocol for the synthesis of enantioenriched α-N-heteroaryl ketones from alkenes and enamines in the presence of a carbon monoxide surrogate.

The detailed mechanisms of Ni-catalyzed reductive arylalkylation of unactivated alkenes with aryl bromides to synthesize benzene-fused 5- and 6- cyclic compounds were systematically investigated by DFT calculations. Our finding reveals that, under the catalysis of a Ni/biOx system with Zn as a reductant, bromobenzene containing a terminal olefin unit preferentially undergoes traditional Heck cyclization and cross-coupling reactions, favoring the formation of 5- cyclization products. In contrast, when Zn is absent, Ni-alkyl species play a pivotal role, facilitating a rare 1,2-aryl migration followed by H-atom abstration, which selectively yields 6- cyclization products.

Reductive cross-coupling reactions involving two electrophilic reagents have become increasingly important in modern synthetic chemistry. Previous studies have investigated electrophilic reagents featuring zero or one inactive bond; however, reactions involving electrophilic reagents with two inactive bonds remain unexplored. This study presents the first nickel-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling reaction under mechanical conditions, involving aryl ethers and aryl fluorides, both of which contain inactive bonds.

Enantioselective Multicomponent Electrochemical Difunctionalization of Terminal Alkynes.

The direct functionalization of alkyne triple bonds using a radical strategy provides an efficient platform for creating a wide range of substituted alkenes. However, developing a multicomponent enantioselective radical reaction using feedstock alkynes to forge all-carbon quaternary stereocenters─while addressing challenges related to compatibility, selectivity, and efficiency─remains relatively rare. Here we report an enantioselective electrochemical nickel-catalyzed three-component cross-coupling of readily available terminal alkynes, diverse racemic alkyl radical precursors, and group transfer reagents (such as (TMS)Si-H, RSe-SeR, RTe-TeR, and CHI), achieving excellent regio-, stereo-, and enantioselectivities (more than 70 examples, up to 95% ee).

The study of high-valent organometallic nickel compounds has gained considerable interest recently, primarily driven by the development of nickel-catalyzed alkyl-alkyl cross-coupling reactions that are proposed to employ such high-valent intermediates. In that regard, we have recently reported a formal Ni(III)-dimethyl intermediate supported by the ligand ,',″-triisopropyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane (Prtacn) that can undergo rapid C-C reductive elimination and catalyze alkyl-alkyl Kumada cross-coupling reactions. The bulky nature of this tridentate ligand was suggested to lead to two geometrically and electronically inequivalent alkyl groups bound to the five-coordinate Ni center.
