We report on a study of the early relaxation processes of met-Myoglobin in aqueous solution, using a combination of ultrafast broadband fluorescence detection and transient absorption with a broad UV-visible continuum probe at different pump energies. Reconstruction of the spectra of the transient species unravels the details of the haem photocycle in the absence of photolysis. Besides identifying a branching in the ultrafast relaxation of the haem, we show clear evidence for an electronic character of the intermediates, contrary to the commonly accepted idea that the early time relaxation of the haem is only due to cooling. The decay back to the ground state proceeds partially as a cascade through iron spin states, which seems to be a general characteristic of haem systems.

The development of molecular species with switchable magnetic properties has been a long-standing challenge in chemistry. One approach involves binding an analyte, such as protons, to a compound to trigger a change in magnetism. Transition metal complexes have been targeted for this type of magnetic modulation because they can undergo changes in their spin states.

Optical computing, renowned for its light-speed processing and low power consumption, typically relies on the coherent control of two light sources. However, there are challenges in stabilizing and maintaining high optical spatiotemporal coherence, especially for large-scale computing systems. The coherence requires rigorous feedback circuits and numerous phase shifters, introducing system instability and complexity.

The coordination compounds featuring a {CuO} core, typically bridged by hydroxo or alkoxo groups, are particularly intriguing due to their notable magnetic properties and catalytic activity. In this study, we explored the synthesis and characterization of four new Schiff base ligands and their subsequent complexation with Cu salts, which resulted in the formation of three tetranuclear complexes: [Cu(L)]·2HO (1), [Cu(L)(HL)](Cl)(NO)·5HO (2), and [Cu(L)] (3), as well as one dinuclear complex: [Cu(L)] (4). These tetranuclear complexes all feature a {CuO} core, but with differing coordination environments around the Cu centers.

We present the theory and implementation of a fully variational wave function-density functional theory (DFT) hybrid model, which is applicable to many cases of strong correlation. We denote this model as the multiconfigurational self-consistent on-top pair-density functional theory (MC-srPDFT) model. We have previously shown how the multiconfigurational short-range DFT (MC-srDFT) hybrid model can describe many multiconfigurational cases of any spin symmetry and also state-specific calculations on excited states [Hedegård et al.

Among the large family of spin-crossover (SCO) solids, recent investigations focused on polynuclear SCO materials, whose specific molecular configurations allow the presence of multi-step transitions and elastic frustration. In this contribution, we develop the first elastic modeling of thermal and dynamical properties of trinuclear SCO solids. For that, we study a finite SCO open chain constituted of successive elastically coupled trinuclear (A=B=C) blocks, in which each site (A, B, and C) may occupy two electronic configurations, namely, low-spin (LS) and high-spin (HS) states, accompanied with structural changes.
