We utilized our in situ method for the one-step assembly of single-layer electrochromic devices (ECDs) with a 3,4-propylenedioxythiophene (ProDOT) acrylate derivative, and long-term stability was achieved. By coupling the electroactive monomer to the cross-linkable polymer matrix, preparation of the electrochromic ProDOT polymer can occur followed by UV cross-linking. Thus, we achieve immobilization of the unreacted monomer, which prevents any degradative processes from occurring at the counter electrode. This approach eliminated spot formation in the device and increased stability to over 10 000 cycles when compared to 500 cycles with conventional ProDOT devices wherein the monomer is not immobilized. The acrylated electrochromic polymer exhibits similar electrochromic properties as conventional ProDOT devices, such as photopic contrast (48% compared to 46%) and switch speed (both 2 s). This method can be applied to any one-layer electrochromic system where improved stability is desired.

This study explores the modeling, design, simulation, and testing of a new composite material designed for high-strength and high-temperature resistance in in-space optical mining, examining its properties at both the polymer and atomic/molecular levels. At the polymer level, the investigation includes mechanical and thermal performance analyses using COMSOL Multiphysics 6.1, employing layerwise theory, equivalent single layer (ESL) theory, and a multiple-model approach for mechanical modeling, alongside virtual thermal experiments simulating laser heating.

The development of stealth devices that are compatible with both infrared (IR) and radar systems remains a significant challenge, as the material properties required for effective IR and radar stealth are often contradictory. In this work, based on an IR electrochromic device (IR-ECD), concepts of metamaterial manipulating electromagnetic waves are applied to develop a multifunctional ultrathin metasurface with a low radar cross section (RCS) and variable infrared emissivity. This paper presents a linear-to-linear polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) designed by hollowing the IR-ECD.

A single-layer electrochromic device (SL-ECD) based on ionic conductors containing EC chromophores provides a very simple platform that can be readily fabricated by sandwiching the EC layer between two electrodes. The operation of SL-ECDs is governed by the diffusion of redox species due to their SL structure, which causes a relatively slow dynamic response. In this study, we propose an effective high-voltage pulse injection strategy to improve the performance of SL-ECDs.

Here, we demonstrate for the first time the ability of a porous π-conjugated semiconducting polymer film to enable facile electrolyte penetration through vertically stacked redox-active polymer layers, thereby enabling electrochromic switching between p-type and/or n-type polymers. The polymers and , with structures diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-π-3,4,-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT)-π [π = 2,5-thienyl for and π = 2,5-thiazolyl for ] are selected as the p-type polymers and (a known naphthalenediimide-dithiophene semiconductor) as the n-type polymer. Single-layer porous and dense (control) polymer films are fabricated and extensively characterized using optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering.

Thermofluorochromic materials exhibit tunable fluorescence emission on heating or cooling. They are highly desirable for applications ranging from temperature sensing to high-security anti-counterfeiting. Luminescent matrices based on liquid crystals are very promising, particularly those based on liquid crystals with intrinsic fluorescence.
