We studied the characteristics of quality of life in patients in the acute and recovery phase of ischemic stroke in the vertebral-basilar basin due to hypertensive disease as the leading risk factor for the disease. The rates of basic daily activities on a Barthel scale, cognitive functions on the MMSE, physical and mental components of health on the SF-36 were significantly reduced in patients with acute ischemic stroke. The improvement in functional and cognitive impairments was observed during the first year after stroke. Parameters of quality of life improved but did not reach the control levels. The sanatorium treatment of post stroke patients significantly (p<0.05) promoted the restoration of lost functions as well as quality of life compared to outpatient rehabilitation.
