Soft-tissue sarcomas are rare, accounting for only one percent of all cancers. They can occur in retroperitoneal and intraperitoneal sites, including gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST), and have the potential to cause complications secondary to interaction with other abdominal viscera. Fistulation, or an abnormal communication between two epithelium-lined surfaces that do not usually connect, is a rare example of such a complication. We present a series of cases of fistulation due to the presence of an intra-abdominal soft-tissue sarcoma and contrast three different approaches to management. We discuss the radiological features and other modalities of imaging which may be useful in diagnosing this rare complication.

There is no experience with ciprofloxacin for the treatment of carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria (CP-GNB) infections. This is a retrospective single-centre study where we describe the clinical evolution of all consecutive adult patients who received ciprofloxacin monotherapy for the treatment of CP-GNB infections. Primary outcomes were clinical failure (defined as death, lack of clinical improvement or a switch to another drug) at day 14 and 30-day all-cause mortality.

Antibiotic lengths of therapy (LOT) vary widely, based on infection type, antibiotic regimen, and patient characteristics. Longer LOT are associated with increased risk of antibiotic resistance, adverse effects, and health care costs. There are increasing data supporting shorter LOT for many infections based on randomized, controlled trials (RCTs).

Antibacterial activity can be classified as either bactericidal or bacteriostatic, using methods such as the MBC/MIC ratio and time-kill curves. However, such categorization has proven challenging in clinical practice, as these definitions only apply under specific laboratory conditions, which may differ from clinical settings. Several factors, such as the specific bacteria or infectious medium, can affect the action of antibiotics, with many antibacterials exerting both activities.

Introduction: Percutaneous cryoablation is a first-line therapeutic option for primary neoplasms and metastatic lesions of the musculoskeletal system. Treatment of abdominal wall tumors is challenging as surgical resection can be highly morbid and necessitate complex reconstructive surgery; the efficacy of cryoablation for abdominal wall tumors may be limited by inadequate posterior margins owing to the proximity of intra-abdominal organs. With laparoscopy and insufflation, peritoneal structures can be safely mobilized away from the abdominal wall, allowing for adequate deep margin freeze and visualization of the ice ball.

WHEN SHOULD SHORT-TERM ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY BE CHOSEN? Reducing antibiotic exposure by shortening treatment duration is a public health priority that could mitigate the emergence of bacterial resistance, minimize adverse effects, and lower costs. Additionally, a short yet effective antibiotic regimen is associated with improved patient compliance and satisfaction. Several trials in recent years have confirmed the efficacy of shorter treatment durations.
