Aims: This review examines the challenges posed by Diabetic Foot Infections (DFIs), focusing on the impact of neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, immunopathy, and the polymicrobial nature of these infections. The aim is to explore the factors contributing to antimicrobial resistance and assess the potential of novel antimicrobial treatments and drug delivery systems in improving patient outcomes.

Method: A comprehensive analysis of existing literature on DFIs was conducted, highlighting the multifactorial pathogenesis and polymicrobial composition of these infections.

This case report presents a 37-year-old male with a complex medical history, including HIV, chronic methamphetamine and cocaine use, and an atrial septal defect, who developed severe pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), biventricular failure, and recurrent stroke. The patient was admitted with acute neurological deficits and respiratory failure, which rapidly progressed despite intensive management. Laboratory and imaging studies revealed severe cardiac dysfunction and elevated pulmonary vascular resistance.

Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease characterized by chronic destruction of the periodontal supporting tissues and is closely associated with the dysbiosis of the plaque biofilm. Temporomandibular Joint Disorders in Elderly Patients.

Cureus

January 2025

Department of Biology and Basic Subjects, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Hassan II University of Casablanca, Casablanca, MAR.

The management of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) in elderly patients can present a significant challenge for dentists due to its multifactorial etiology, aging-related changes that contribute to TMD, and the fragile psychological state of these patients. Despite the growing prevalence of TMD in the elderly population, the scientific literature provides limited information about effective management strategies for this group. Therefore, it is crucial for researchers and clinicians to focus on improving our understanding of TMD in the elderly population and to develop more effective treatment approaches.

Electronic address:

A wide range of acute brain injuries, including both traumatic and non-traumatic causes, can result in elevated intracranial pressure (ICP), which in turn can cause further secondary injury to the brain, initiating a vicious cascade of propagating injury. Elevated ICP is therefore a neurological injury that requires intensive monitoring and time-sensitive interventions. Patients at high risk for developing elevated ICP undergo placement of invasive ICP monitors including external ventricular drains, intraparenchymal ICP monitors, and lumbar drains.
