Objective: To observe the effect of Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) on cytokines production in liver fibrosis rats and its mechanism.

Methods: SD rats were randomly divided into 6 groups, including normal group, liver fibrosis model group, PNS (50, 100, 200 mg/kg) treated groups and Col group. Rat liver fibrosis was induced by CCl4 twice a week for 18 weeks. PNS were administered daily from the 9th week for 10 weeks. The IL-1, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-alpha level in serum were determined by radioimmunity. The degree of liver fibrosis was observed by HE and immuninochemistry. The expression of TGF-beta, TNF-alpha mRNA were detected by RT-PCR technology.

Results: Compared with the fibrotic model group, PNS (100, 200 mg/kg) could not only significantly reduce histopathological change, but also effectively decrease the level of IL-1, IL-6, NF-kappaB, TNF-alpha ,TGF-beta, and increase the level of IL-10.

Conclusion: PNS has protective effect on liver fibrosis and it maybe related to regulating cytokine network.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of IL-35 on the prognosis of patients with HBV-ACLF. We recruited 69 patients with HBV-ACLF, 20 patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), 17 patients with liver cirrhosis (LC), and 20 healthy controls (HCs) from a regional infectious disease treatment center in China. Plasma levels of IL-35 at baseline were detected using ELISA.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a significant risk factor for liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Traditionally, the primary prevention strategy for HCV-associated HCC has focused on removing infection through antiviral regimes. Currently, highly effective direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) offer extraordinary success across all patient categories, including cirrhotics.

Chronic Hepatitis B Genotype C Mouse Model with Persistent Covalently Closed Circular DNA.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) can cause chronic infections, significantly increasing the risk of death from cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A key player in chronic HBV infection is covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA), a stable episomal form of viral DNA that acts as a persistent reservoir in infected hepatocytes and drives continuous viral replication. Despite the development of several animal models, few adequately replicate cccDNA formation and maintenance, limiting our understanding of its dynamics and the evaluation of potential therapeutic interventions targeting cccDNA.

The hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, a global health concern, can lead to chronic liver disease. The HCV core antigen (HCVcAg), a viral protein essential for replication, offers a cost-effective alternative to HCV RNA testing, particularly in resource-limited settings. This review explores the significance of HCVcAg, a key protein in the hepatitis C virus, examining its structure, function, and role in the viral life cycle.
