Specific immunotherapy (SIT) is a disease modifying treatment for allergic rhinitis (AR), with its benefits most evident in those who are refractory to medical treatment. It is used less frequently in UK than Europe/US. No data exist on SIT use in Ireland. We audited paediatric practice to evaluate patient selection, SIT modalities and adverse events (A.E.). A 9 item questionnaire was sent to Irish paediatricians, identified via the Irish Paediatric Surveillance Unit (IPSU) mailing list. 58 children have undertaken SIT (Subcutaneous SCIT =3, Sublingual = 55). This represents 0.01% of Irish children estimated to have AR. 33 (56%) had asthma; 18 (55%) had perennial asthma, 7 (21%) seasonal asthma. Adverse events occurred in 5 cases (8.6%). Three treatments (3-5%) were discontinued as a result. SIT is available across Ireland, though only extremely small numbers of children with AR are being treated yet. Co-morbid asthma is frequent and does not increase adverse events. This audit will raise awareness of SIT use for AR in Ireland.

Fatigue is prevalent in immune-mediated inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases, yet its assessment relies largely on patient-reported outcomes, which capture perception but not fluctuations over time. Wearable sensors, like inertial measurement units (IMUs), offer a way to monitor daily activities and evaluate functional capacity. This study investigates the relationship between sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit transitions and self-reported physical and mental fatigue in participants with Parkinson's, Huntington's, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, primary Sjögren's syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.

The characterization, through the concept of muscle synergies, of clinical functional tests is a valid tool that has been widely adopted in the research field. While this theory has been exploited for a description of the motor control strategies underlying the biomechanical task, the biomechanical correlate of the synergistic activity is yet to be fully described. In this paper, the relationship between the activity of different synergies and the center of mass kinematic patterns has been investigated; in particular, a group of healthy subjects has been recruited to perform simple sit-to-stand tasks, and the electromyographic data has been recorded for the extraction of muscle synergies.

Non-invasive assessment of joint status using acoustic emissions (AE) is a growing research area that has the potential to translate into clinical practice. The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation of the knee's AE with measures of proprioception, self-assessment, and performance, as it can be hypothesised that, AE parameters will correlate with joint function metrics due to AE being recorded during interaction of the articular surfaces.
