Objective: This study was conducted to determine the current status of bovine cysticercosis and human taeniosis in two provinces (Afyonkarahisar and Burdur in the western part of Turkey between October 2009 and October 2011).
Methods: In the study period, a total of 1684 cattle and 7644 human stool samples were examined for Cysticercus bovis, and Taeniosis, respectively. Carcasses of animals were subjected to routine meat inspection. Stool samples of humans were analysed macroscopically and microscopically including direct and formaldehyde-ether sedimentation methods.
Results: C. bovis was determined in 0.24% of cattle by postmortem examination. The prevalence of infection was found to be 0.46% in Afyonkarahisar and 0.09% in Burdur. Taenia sp. eggs were shown in 0.1% of the human stool samples. The infection rate was detected as 0.1% and 0.09% in Afyonkarahisar and Burdur, respectively.
Conclusion: This study is characterized as a preliminary investigation which offers useful information on a public health level within a short time at a low cost. Results obtained from this study cannot be generalized to study areas in epidemiological terms, but they are useful data for the relevant geography.

Research Background: In the food industry, research interest in the functional effects of natural polysaccharides from plants has increased in recent years. Tragacanth gum is used in dairy products because of its stabilising, thickening, fat-replacing and prebiotic properties. However, skimmed milk is considered a significant commercial loss in the production of buffalo clotted cream.

Baicalein (B) has potential antioxidant properties, but it has not been tested as a ram semen extender. This study aimed to assess the impact of B on various sperm parameters and determine its potential influence on semen quality after the freeze-thawing process. During the breeding season, ejaculates were obtained from four rams with the aid of an artificial vagina.

Carbon based metallic additives were widely researched to improve combustion charecteristics of spark ignition and compression ignition engines. It was proven that carbon nanotube additive shortens ignition delay period and improves combustion characteristics especially in diesel engines. HCCI is a lean burn combustion mode which provides high thermal efficiency and simultaneously low NOx and soot emission.

To the best of our knowledge, no research has been conducted to test the effects of syringic acid (SA) on ram semen freezing within the scope of natural antioxidants added to semen extenders. Therefore, this study had two main objectives. First, to test whether adding SA to ram semen freezing extender has a protective effect and contributes positively to sperm kinetic, plasma and acrosome integrity, mitochondrial membrane potential, lipid peroxidation, oxidant and antioxidant and DNA damage parameters after thawing.
