Published: November 2013

As a common reason for consultation, red eye can be a symptom of benign diseases, such as conjunctivitis, subconjunctival hemorrhage, dry eye syndrome,..., which can be managed by the general practitioner or internist. Conversely, more serious pathologies require a ophthalmologist management: these are keratitis, uveitis, acute glaucoma attack, or endophtalmitis. Psychotherapeutic interventions aimed at treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in adolescents and young adults are hampered by high dropout rates. Looking at the results from adult treatments, short, intensive, outpatient treatment programmes may offer a promising alternative, but it has yet to be tested in this young population. To assess the results of a six-day intensive outpatient trauma-focused treatment programme for young individuals (12-25 years) with PTSD.

Background: Human anterior lens capsules (ALCs) have great potential in the treatment of multiple eye diseases, including corneal ulcers, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and macular holes. ALCs are also regarded as promising scaffolds for various ocular cells. Here, we investigated different decellularization methods for removing lens epithelial cells (LECs) that adhered to ALCs.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of sunflower cake (SFC) levels (0, 7, 14, 21, and 28% dry matter) in the diet for feedlot lambs on meat quality and its fatty acid profile. Forty crossbreed non castrated hair lambs were fed with experimental diets through 70 days when they were slaughtered and a Longissimus lumborum section were evaluated for physicochemical quality and fatty acid profile. There were no effects of SFC levels (P > 0.

In this study, pH-responsive nanocomposite films with high barrier properties were obtained by the addition of a mixture of methyl red and bromothymol blue to the inner film and Silicon dioxide nanoparticles (nano-SiO) to the outer film matrix. The incorporation of nano-SiO resulted in a notable reduction in the oxygen permeability coefficient and water vapor transmission rate, accompanied by an enhancement in the UV barrier and tensile strength. In comparison with the control sample (0 % nano-SiO), the film containing 1 % nano-SiO exhibited a 57.

Rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of heavy metal ions is significant for human health and ecological security. Herein, a novel single-stranded DNA with poly(thymidine) tail is tactfully designed as template to synthesize dual-emission silver nanoclusters (ssDNA-AgNCs). The obtained AgNCs simultaneously emit red and green fluorescence, and the red emission can be selectively quenched by Hg, meanwhile the green emission of AgNCs increases synchronously.
