Bear attacks are reported from nearly every part of the world. The chance of a human encountering a bear increases as the remote bear territory diminishes. The sloth bear is one of the three species of bears found in India, which inhabits the forests of India and its neighboring countries. Here we describe a teenager who came to us with a critical injury involving the face, temporal and occipital bones inflicted by a sloth bear attack. He underwent a temporal exploration, facial nerve decompression, pinna reconstruction, and occipital bone repair to save him from fatality.

Background: Trichoscopy is a simple, noninvasive tool to help in the diagnosis of various hair and scalp disorders. There is paucity of data on the normal trichoscopic parameters of hair density and diameter in the Indian population.
Aim: The aim of this study was to establish the trichoscopic patterns of hair and scalp in healthy Indian males and to provide a framework for future reference.

Resting state electroencephalography (EEG) has proved useful in studying electrophysiological changes in neurodegenerative diseases. In many neuropathologies, microstate analysis of the eyes-closed (EC) scalp EEG is a robust and highly reproducible technique for assessing topological changes with high temporal resolution. However, scalp EEG microstate maps tend to underestimate the non-occipital or non-alpha-band networks, which can also be used to detect neuropathological changes.

The Dark Triad (DT), encompassing narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy traits, poses significant societal challenges. Understanding the neural underpinnings of these traits is crucial for developing effective interventions and preventive strategies. Our study aimed to unveil the neural substrates of the DT by examining brain scans from 201 individuals (mean age: 32.

Performance of a task involves the engagement of various brain areas, as evidenced by the effects of lesions of particular brain areas and the results of functional neuroimaging and neurophysiological studies. Here we tested the hypothesis that overall task performance would depend on the level of ongoing, resting-state change in synaptic activity of participating areas, such that the degree of success of the outcome would be higher, the higher the resting-state activation. For that purpose, we used 248-sensor magnetoencephalography (MEG) in healthy people to obtain estimates of resting-state synaptic activity in various areas and then correlated those estimates to the average performance score in three visuospatial tasks assessed outside the MEG session using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), namely the Trails, Cube, and Clock Drawing (TCCD) tasks.

Processing pathways between sensory and default mode network (DMN) regions support recognition, navigation, and memory but their organisation is not well understood. We show that functional subdivisions of visual cortex and DMN sit at opposing ends of parallel streams of information processing that support visually mediated semantic and spatial cognition, providing convergent evidence from univariate and multivariate task responses, intrinsic functional and structural connectivity. Participants learned virtual environments consisting of buildings populated with objects, drawn from either a single semantic category or multiple categories.
