Purpose: This study evaluates the effectiveness of the inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique during vitrectomy for treating macular hole-induced retinal detachment (MHRD) in high myopia patients, a challenging complication for vitreoretinal surgeons due to its treatment complexity.

Methods: We conducted a prospective study analyzing 92 eyes diagnosed with MHRD, all undergoing vitrectomy using the inverted ILM flap technique between February 2022 and September 2024. Successful surgery was defined as achieving retinal reattachment, macular hole closure, and improvement in visual acuity by the 12-month postoperative follow-up.

The Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) network has proposed theoretical minimum risk exposure level (TMREL) for leading risk factors associated with diet that minimize the risk of morbimortality from chronic diseases. TMREL can be applied to develop follow-up or evaluation indicators in individual studies. The validity of these scores can be tested by assessing associations with health outcomes in prospective cohorts.

Differential diagnostic value of P wave dispersion and QT interval dispersion between psychogenic pseudosyncope and vasovagal syncope in children and adolescents.

Ital J Pediatr

January 2025

Department of Pediatric Cardiovasology, Children's Medical Center, The Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, No.139 Renmin Middle Road, Changsha, 410011, Hunan, China.

Background: Both psychogenic pseudosyncope (PPS) and vasovagal syncope (VVS) in children and adolescents are diseases of transient loss of consciousness. It is difficult to distinguish them clinically. This paper will study the differential diagnostic value of P wave dispersion (Pd) and QT interval dispersion (QTd) between PPS and VVS.

Background: Dermatophytes, the primary causative agents of superficial cutaneous fungal infections in humans, present a significant therapeutic challenge owing to the increasing prevalence of recurrent infections and the emergence of antifungal resistance. To address this critical gap, this study was designed to investigate the antifungal potential of 3-benzylideneindolin-2-one against dermatophytes and assess its in vivo toxicological profile using brine shrimp and zebrafish embryo models.

Methods: The antifungal activity of 3-benzylideneindolin-2-one was evaluated against 30 clinical isolates of dermatophyte species, including Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, Microsporum gypseum, Microsporum canis, and Epidermophyton floccosum, by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) using the broth microdilution method.

Effects of movement behaviors on preschoolers' cognition: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials.

Int J Behav Nutr Phys Act

January 2025

Prevention Research Center, Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Albuquerque, NM, USA.

Background: Movement behaviors, including physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), and sleep, are fundamental to early childhood development. These behaviors interact dynamically within a 24-hour period, creating a complex balance that influences not only physical health but also cognitive and emotional well-being in young children. While the physical health benefits of movement behaviors are well-documented, systematic evaluations of how interventions targeting these behaviors affect cognitive development in preschool-aged children remain limited.
