Published: February 2014

Oligomers containing the peptide sequence cysteine-any-cysteine (CXC) were attached, at specific locations, to a linear chain of polystyrene. The polymer-bound peptide motifs were then oxidized under dilute conditions to afford a complex bio-hybrid bi-cyclic topology via intramolecular twin disulfide bridge formation.

Background: High moisture meat analog (HMMA) products processed using extrusion have become increasingly popular in the last few years. Because the formation of disulfide bonds is believed to play a critical role in the texturization mechanism, this study aimed to understand how chemical compounds capable of reducing disulfide bonds, specifically cysteine, sodium metabisulfite, and glutathione, affect the texture and the chemical interactions between the proteins.

Method: Wheat protein blended with cysteine, sodium metabisulfite, or glutathione at levels of 0, 0.

Background: Organotin(IV) complexes of dithiocarbamate are vital in medicinal chemistry, exhibiting potential in targeting cancer cells due to their unique properties that enhance targeted delivery. This study aimed to synthesize and characterize organotin(IV) -ethyl--benzyldithiocarbamate complexes (ONBDCs) and evaluate their cytotoxicity against A549 cells, which are commonly used as a model for human lung cancer research.

Methods: The two ONBDC derivatives - ONBDC 1 (dimethyltin(IV) -ethyl--benzyldithiocarbamate) and ONBDC 2 (triphenyltin(IV) -ethyl--benzyldithiocarbamate) - were synthesized via the reaction of tin(IV) chloride with N-ethylbenzylamine in the presence of carbon disulfide.

Microbial reduction of organic disulfides affects the macromolecular structure and chemical reactivity of natural organic matter. Currently, the enzymatic pathways that mediate disulfide bond reduction in soil and sedimentary organic matter are poorly understood. In this study, we examined the extracellular reduction of 5,5'-dithiobis(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB) by strain MR-1.

This study is focused on exploring the effect of twin-screw high-moisture extrusion technology on the physico-chemical properties of β-glucan-soybean protein isolate (SPI-BG) extrudates. Different proportions (0 %, 1 %, 2 %, 3 %, 4 %, 5 %) of oat β-glucan (BG) were added with soybean protein isolate (SPI) to prepare SPI-BG extrudates. Results showed that the addition of a high quantity of β-glucan (BG) decreased the elastic properties of soy protein isolate (SPI) extrudates and then increased.
