A newborn (5 h old) quarter horse colt was presented because of lethargy and severe abdominal distention. Uroperitoneum was suspected during initial workup, based on sonographic imaging and peritoneal fluid analysis. Definitive diagnosis was confirmed during exploratory celiotomy.

Summary Background Data: Despite the increased risk of pregnancy associated complications among surgeons, most US institutions do not have formalized support to help sustain a healthy pregnancy in surgeons.
Methods: An anonymous self-administered Qualtrics survey was distributed electronically to US surgeons across all surgical specialties.

Objectives: Unplanned extubations (UEs) can be a frequent problem and are associated with adverse outcomes. This quality improvement initiative sought to reduce UEs from tube dislodgement in a level IV NICU utilizing methods applicable to other ICUs and performed with minimal monetary funds.
Methods: From January 2019 to July 2023, an interdisciplinary quality improvement team used the Model for Improvement and performed sequential interventions to improve the outcome measure of UEs per 100 ventilator days.

Background: Moderately preterm infants (MPTI) comprise a large proportion of NICU admissions and are an understudied population. The unique experience of families with MPTIs has yet to be examined in the literature. Describing MPTI parent needs and preferences may inform interventions to improve care and outcomes for this population.
