Published: March 2014

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate correlations between tumor stroma characters and dynamic contrast-enhanced computed tomographic (CT) findings in nodular pulmonary adenocarcinoma.

Methods: Thirty-three patients with nodular pulmonary adenocarcinoma underwent dynamic contrast-enhancement CT scan before surgery. CT findings include wash-in, wash-out, and distribution of enhancement. The proportion of invasive and noninvasive stroma in tumor was calculated.

Results: Invasive and noninvasive stroma proportion in tumor was correlated positively with wash-in and wash-out enhancement, respectively.

Conclusions: Tumor stroma proliferation may explain the pathologic basis of CT dynamic enhancement and be a useful prognostic factor of pulmonary adenocarcinoma.

Aim: The tumor microenvironment in pancreatic cancer, characterized by abundant desmoplastic stroma, has been implicated in the failure of chemotherapy. Therefore, developing therapeutic strategies targeting tumor and stromal cells is essential. Triptolide, a natural compound derived from the plant Tripterygium wilfordii, has shown antitumor activity in various cancers, including pancreatic cancer.

Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute (CHIRI), Faculty of Health Sciences, Curtin University, Perth, WA 6102, Australia.

Endometriosis is a gynecologic condition characterized by the growth of endometrium-like stroma and glandular elements outside of the uterine cavity. The involvement of hormonal dysregulation, specifically estrogen, is well established in the initiation, progression, and maintenance of the condition. Evidence also highlights the association between endometriosis and altered immune states.

January 2025

Department of Otology and Skull Base Surgery, Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Objective: Endolymphatic sac tumors (ELSTs), as rare low-grade neoplasms, are primarily treated with surgery. This study analyzes the characteristics of tumor-infiltrating leukocytes (TILs) in ELSTs and their relationships with clinical features to explore the potential for immunotherapy in ELSTs.

Methods: Clinical data and tumor specimens of 10 ELSTs patients who underwent surgery were retrieved.

Associations of serum and tissue TIMP1 with host response and survival in colorectal cancer.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Translational Medicine Research Unit, Medical Research Center Oulu, Oulu University Hospital, and University of Oulu, Aapistie 5A, 90220, Oulu, Finland.

Tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP1) is a multifaceted, cytokine-like bioactive molecule whose levels are elevated in a wide range of inflammatory diseases and are associated with prognosis. Additionally, TIMP1 may play a role in driving systemic inflammation. TIMP1 immunohistochemistry and TIMP1 serum concentrations were analyzed in a cohort of 776 colorectal cancer patients.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibition therapies have provided remarkable results in numerous metastatic cancers, including mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) colorectal cancer (CRC). To evaluate the potential for PD-1 blockade therapy in a large population-based cohort, we analyzed the tumor microenvironment and reviewed the clinical data and actualized treatment of all dMMR CRCs in Central Finland province between 2000 and 2015.

Material And Methods: Of 1343 CRC patients, 171 dMMR tumors were identified through immunohistochemical screening.
