Detrusor muscle from human bladder contracted to field stimulation after atropine. It also responded to exogenous substance P by an atropine-insensitive mechanism. We tested whether substance P might mediate noncholinergic excitation. Tachyphylaxis to substance P did not effect noncholinergic responses to field stimulation. A substance P antagonist was ineffective in blocking responses to field stimulation or to exogenous substance P. Capsaicin had only nonspecific depressant effects on field stimulated contraction in high (10(-4) M) concentrations. These data do not support the hypothesis that substance P is the mediator of noncholinergic, field stimulated contractions of human detrusor muscle.

Introduction: Freezing of gait (FOG) is a disabling symptom that affects over half of Parkinson's disease patients (PD) and hinders the ability to walk. Subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) effectiveness in ameliorating the FOG remains controversial, lacking a reliable electrophysiological biomarker from local field potentials (LFP).
Methods: The LFP-STN rhythms bandpower and dynamics were characterized at rest across groups in a cohort of 23 patients (14 with FOG, and 9 without, n-FOG).

The detection of rare or deviant stimuli shares common brain circuits involved in temporal processing and salience, critical for cognitive control. Disruption in these processes may contribute to the mechanisms of the disease and explain cognitive deficits observed in psychosis and related disorders. We designed a neuroimaging study, using oddball task-based functional sequences (fMRI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), comparing healthy controls (HC, n = 14, 7 females) and patients with stable psychosis (PSY, n = 20, 10 females).

Background: The implementation of large language models (LLMs), such as BART (Bidirectional and Auto-Regressive Transformers) and GPT-4, has revolutionized the extraction of insights from unstructured text. These advancements have expanded into health care, allowing analysis of social media for public health insights. However, the detection of drug discontinuation events (DDEs) remains underexplored.

Biting midges of genus Leptoconops Skuse 1889 are small blood-feeding insects recognized as highly irritating diurnal pests in certain regions around the globe. In Europe, their presence is poorly documented, except in France and Italy. Following reports of human discomfort in a tourist area of Menorca, Balearic Islands (Spain), a small-scale study was conducted to identify the biting species and assess their preferred biting sites using a human-landing assay along a habitat gradient in a coastal dune area.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease with a complex etiology primarily linked to abnormalities in B lymphocytes within the human body, resulting in the production of numerous pathogenic autoantibodies. Telitacicept is a relatively novel humanized, recombinant transmembrane activator, calcium modulator and cyclophilin ligand interactor fused with the Fc portion (TACI-Fc). It works by competitively inhibiting the TACI site, neutralizing the activity of B-cell lymphocyte stimulator and A proliferation-inducing ligand.
