Purpose Of Review: Recent advancements in genetic engineering have propelled the field of xenotransplantation from preclinical models to early compassionate use cases. As first-in-human clinical trials (FIHCTs) approach, we examine recent developments, ethical and regulatory challenges, immunological considerations, and the clinical infrastructure necessary for successful xenotransplantation trials.

Recent Findings: Expanded access transplants of pig hearts, kidneys, and livers have identified key challenges.

Human Oncostatin M deficiency underlies an inherited severe bone marrow failure syndrome.

Laboratory of Genome Dynamics in the Immune, INSERM UMR 116, Équipe Labellisée LIGUE 2023, Paris, France.

Oncostatin M (OSM) is a cytokine with the unique ability to interact with both the OSM receptor (OSMR) and the leukemia inhibitory factor receptor (LIFR). On the other hand, OSMR interacts with IL31RA to form the interleukin-31 receptor. This intricate network of cytokines and receptors makes it difficult to understand the specific function of OSM.

Electronic address:

Background: Aplastic anemia (AA) is a bone marrow failure disease for which the means of assessing and predicting the therapeutic effectiveness are still relatively limited. Thrombocytopenia is often the earliest and most severe symptom in patients newly diagnosed with AA. While clinical consideration is usually given to the quantitative changes in platelets during treatment, there is little focus on the resolution of the molecular characteristics of platelets in AA.
