From extraction experiments and g-activity measurements, the exchange extraction constant corresponding to the equilibrium Zn2+(aq) + 1 . Sr2+(nb) <-> 1 . Zn2+(nb) + Sr2+(aq) taking place in the two-phase water-nitrobenzene system (1 = beauvericin; aq = aqueous phase, nb = nitrobenzene phase) was evaluated as log Kex (Zn2+, 1 . Sr2+) = -0.3 ± 0.1. Further, the stability constant of the beauvericin - zinc complex (abbrev. 1 . Zn2+) in nitrobenzene saturated with water was calculated for a temperature of 25 °C: log βnb (1 . Zn2+) = 9.1 ± 0.2. Finally, by using quantum mechanical DFT calculations, the most probable structure of the 1 . Zn2+ complex species was predicted.

Pursuing nanomaterials with high fluorescence quantum yields is of great significance in the fields of bioimaging, medical diagnosis, and food safety monitoring. This work reports on orange-emitting aggregation-induced emission (AIE) copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) integrated with blue-emitting nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs), which enables highly sensitive detection of S and Zn ions through an off-on ratiometric fluorescence method. The highly emissive Cu NCs was doped by Ce with a high quantum yield of 51.

Photothermal Coating on Zinc Alloy for Controlled Biodegradation and Improved Osseointegration.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

Zinc (Zn) and its alloys are promising biomaterials for orthopedic applications due to their degradability and mechanical properties. Zn plays a crucial role in bone formation, but excessive early release may cause cytotoxicity and inhibit osseointegration. To solve this, we developed a near-infrared (NIR) light-controlled polycaprolactone/copper-sulfur (PCL/CuS) coating that slows degradation and enhances osseointegration of Zn alloys.

Ferrihydrite (Fh), a widely distributed mineral in the environment, plays a crucial role in the geochemical cycling of elements. This study used experimental and computational approaches to investigate the adsorption behavior of seven heavy metal ions on Fh. The pH edge analysis revealed that the adsorption capacity followed the order: Pb > Cu > Zn > Cd > Ni > Co > Mn, with Pb showed the highest adsorption.

Investigating the correlation between metal coordination and molecular conductivity in single-molecule systems is essential for advancing our knowledge of molecular electronics, particularly in the realm of spintronics. In the present study, we developed two complex wires utilizing the bipyridine ligand and two transition metal ions, Co and Zn, aiming to study the impact of different spin characters on single-molecule charge transport properties. Single-molecule conductance was investigated using scanning tunnelling microscope breaking junctions (STM-BJ) technique and the underlying mechanism was analysed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

CQHC, a novel colorimetric fluorescent sensor, developed for the selective sensing of ions and well characterised, including SC-XRD. It demonstrated selective sensing for Co, Zn, Hg and F using absorbance titration at 420 nm, 446 nm and the binding constants estimated follows the order F > Co > Hg > Zn. On light of this, molecular logic gate was built for CQHC's selective multi-ion detection.
