Objective: We review the state of the art in meta-analysis and data pooling following the evolution of the statistical models employed.
Methods: Starting from a classic definition of meta-analysis of published data, a set of apparent antinomies which characterized the development of the meta-analytic tools are reconciled in dichotomies where the second term represents a possible generalization of the first one. Particular attention is given to the generalized linear mixed models as an overall framework for meta-analysis. Bayesian meta-analysis is discussed as a further possibility of generalization for sensitivity analysis and the use of priors as a data augmentation approach.
Results: We provide relevant examples to underline how the need for adequate methods to solve practical issues in specific areas of research have guided the development of advanced methods in meta-analysis.
Conclusions: We show how all the advances in meta-analysis naturally merge into the unified framework of generalized linear mixed models and reconcile apparently conflicting approaches. All these complex models can be easily implemented with the standard commercial software available.

Purpose: Considerable genetic heterogeneity is currently thought to underlie hereditary prostate cancer (HPC). Most families meeting criteria for HPC cannot be attributed to currently known pathogenic variants.
Methods: To discover pathogenic variants predisposing to prostate cancer, we conducted a familial case-control association study using both genome-wide single-allele and identity-by-descent analytic approaches.

Purpose: Pregnant and postpartum mothers with physical disabilities face discrimination in healthcare settings and high rates of maternal and obstetric complications, as well as having higher rates of lifetime depression prior to pregnancy, potentially increasing their likelihood of experiencing postpartum depression (PPD). Some studies have found higher rates of PPD in mothers with physical disabilities than in mothers without physical disabilities, with more disabling symptoms associated with worse PPD systems; however, the literature is sparse and heterogenous. This systematic review and meta-analysis advanced this area of study by evaluating the strength of the association between PPD and physical disability.

Background: The Woven EndoBridge 17 (WEB-17) is the latest advancement in the WEB device family. Comprehensive data on its occlusion rates, procedural complications, and mortality is lacking. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the WEB-17 device in intracranial aneurysms (IAs).

Purpose: Guided access cavity preparation (GACP) is an endodontic procedure utilizing stents, guide sleeves, or dynamic guides to facilitate the proper formation of access cavities. This paper aims to evaluate the significance of research on guided access cavity preparation in endodontic treatment concerning dentin preservation. In the context of dentin preservation, this paper provides a thorough scoping review of a variety of methodologies for evaluating the accuracy of guided access cavity preparation.
