This study aims to demonstrate the effect of farming technology on introducing medicinal plants (MP) and wild food plants (WFP) into a traditional agricultural system within peri-urban zones. Field investigations and semi-structured focus group interviews conducted in the Buhozi community showed that 27 health and nutrition problems dominated in the community, and could be treated with 86 domestic plant species. The selected domestic MP and WFP species were collected in the broad neighboring areas of the Buhozi site, and introduced to the experimental field of beans and maize crops in Buhozi. Among the 86 plants introduced, 37 species are confirmed as having both medicinal and nutritional properties, 47 species with medicinal, and 2 species with nutritional properties. The field is arranged in a way that living hedges made from Tithonia diversifolia provide bio-fertilizers to the plants growing along the hedges. The harvest of farming crops does not disturb the MP or WFP, and vice-versa. After harvesting the integrated plants, the community could gain about 40 times higher income, than from harvesting farming crops only. This kind of field may be used throughout the year, to provide both natural medicines and foods. It may therefore contribute to increasing small-scale crop producers' livelihood, while promoting biodiversity conservation. This model needs to be deeply documented, for further pharmaceutical and nutritional use.

Two series of indolo[1,2-]quinolines (IQs), comprising six 6-trifluoromethylthio indolo[1,2-]quinolines and nine 6-arenesulfonyl indolo[1,2-]quinolines, were screened for their inhibitory activity against EGFR tyrosine kinase (EGFR-TK) using the ADP-Glo™ kinase assay. Among the 15 IQs screened, four compounds exhibited cytotoxic activity against a lung cancer cell line (A549) that was as potent as the known drug afatinib with lower cytotoxicity in Vero cells. In addition, while they displayed cytotoxic activity against a head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cell line (SCC cells), they were inactive against a colorectal cancer cell line (LS174T cells).

Remimazolam (Byfavo, Acacia Pharma), a recent Food and Drug Administration-approved ester-linked benzodiazepine, offers advantages in sedation, such as rapid onset and predictable duration, making it suitable for broad anesthesia applications. The origins and prehistory of domestic sheep () are incompletely understood; to address this, we generated data from 118 ancient genomes spanning 12,000 years sampled from across Eurasia. Genomes from Central Türkiye ~8000 BCE are genetically proximal to the domestic origins of sheep but do not fully explain the ancestry of later populations, suggesting a mosaic of wild ancestries. Genomic signatures indicate selection by ancient herders for pigmentation patterns, hornedness, and growth rate.

African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious disease affecting wild and domestic pigs, characterised by severe haemorrhagic symptoms and high mortality rates. Originally confined to Sub-Saharan Africa, ASF virus genotype II has spread to Europe since 2014, mainly affecting Eastern Europe, and progressing through wild boar migrations and human action. In January 2022, the first case of ASF, due to genotype II, was reported in North-western Italy, in a wild boar carcass.
