Very few discoveries have had such a large impact on and relevance to clinical medicine as the noninvasive measurement of the diastolic blood pressure. A number of gifted physiologists and clinicians were ineffectively in search of a noninvasive method to determine the diastolic pressure. Nonetheless, the quantification of the diastolic BP was not achieved by any of these clinical or physiological researchers, but by an unlikely and unexpected figure: Nikolai Sergeevich Korotkoff (1874-1920), a young Russian army surgeon, working under precarious conditions in the hardship of diverse wars. It is easy to dismiss the achievement of Korotkoff as a serendipitous discovery, similar to that of Alexander Fleming in the discovery of penicillin. However, Nassim N. Taleb's recent black swan theory may serve to illustrate his discovery in a new and, perhaps, surprising way.
This study evaluated the accuracy of blood pressure measurement in adults using FF680 electronic blood pressure monitors with the Korotkoff-Sound method, in accordance with the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation/European Society of Hypertension/International Organization for Standardization (AAMI/ESH/ISO) universal standards (ISO 81060-2 : 2018). The study was conducted at Shijiazhuang People's Hospital and lasted 56 days, from May 26 to 21 July 2023. Participants, drawn from an adult demographic, underwent data verification and analysis with strict adherence to the trial protocol.

A new blood pressure monitor called KOROT V2 Doctor was developed, integrating an electronic stethoscope to record and visually display Korotkoff sounds during BP measurement.
The device was tested on 85 individuals, with results showing that its BP readings closely matched reference measurements, satisfying the accuracy standards set by multiple medical organizations.
The KOROT V2 Doctor meets the necessary criteria for professional use and is recommended for clinical applications.

A new automated blood pressure monitor, the KOROT P3 Accurate, was studied to see if reviewing Korotkoff sound curves by healthcare professionals enhances its accuracy in identifying unreliable blood pressure readings.
Three observers independently assessed the quality of sound curves from 255 blood pressure measurements, finding that up to 80.4% of systolic and 76.9% of diastolic readings were of good quality.
The study concluded that visual assessments of these sounds can help eliminate poor-quality readings, thereby improving the monitor's overall accuracy.
