Objective: To determine the epidemiological characteristics and associated risk factors of hepatitis B surface antigens (HBsAg) prevalence in rural areas of Hua County, Henan Province, and to provide scientific evidence for Hepatitis B prevention and control in local areas.

Methods: On the basis of an ongoing esophageal cancer cohort study in rural Anyang, a total of 5 104 subjects aged 25-65 years were clustered and selected from 5 targeted villages for this study in rural areas of Hua County, Henan Province. HBsAg was detected in their blood samples and a questionnaire was completed by all the subjects in a manner of one-on-one interview. All statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS for Windows version 13.0.

Results: Of the 5 104 studied subjects (overall participation rate: 92.05%), 5.17% were positive for HBsAg. The detection rate was significantly higher in males than in females (6.54% vs. 3.87%, P<0.001) and the highest detection rates were observed in the 25-29 and 55-59 years groups in both males and females. Multiple Logistic analyses showed unmarried status (OR=1.80, 95% CI: 1.00-3.25) and high frequency of sexual intercourse (Ptrend=0.049) were associated with higher the risk for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.

Conclusion: The prevalence of HBsAg in rural Hua County, Henan Province, was slightly lower than the national average of the same time period. More attention should be attached to high risk groups of HBV infection in this population, i.e. males aged 25-29 years and 55-59 years and sexually active population. Immunization and health education projects against hepatitis B should be carried out in this population to further reduce the overall prevalence of hepatitis B.

In clinical boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), the distribution of dose to a heterogeneous medium that is predicted by a treatment planning system (TPS) should be experimentally validated. A head phantom specifically developed for this purpose is described and demonstrated herein. The cylindrical phantom exhibits distinct regions made from four materials (polymethyl methacrylate, calcium phosphate, air, and boric acid) to approximate a head structure with explicitly defined skin, skull, and brain tissue with a cavity and tumor within.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has created an urgent demand for research, which has spurred the development of enhanced biosafety protocols in biosafety level (BSL)-3 laboratories to safeguard against the risks associated with handling highly contagious pathogens. Laboratory management failures can pose significant hazards.

Methods: An external system captured images of personnel entering a laboratory, which were then analyzed by an AI-based system to verify their compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) regulations, thereby introducing an additional layer of protection.

Chemosensory Cues Modulate Women's Jealousy Responses to Vocal Femininity.

Arch Sex Behav

January 2025

Department of Applied Social Sciences, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom, Hong Kong, China.

Jealousy responses to potential mating rivals are stronger when those rivals display cues indicating higher mate quality. One such cue is vocal femininity in women's voices, with higher-pitched voices eliciting greater jealousy responses. However, cues to mate quality are not evaluated in isolation.

Low-color-temperature candlelight organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) offer a healthier lighting alternative by minimizing blue light exposure, which is known to disrupt circadian rhythms, suppress melatonin, and potentially harm the retina with prolonged use. In this study, we explore the integration of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), specifically molybdenum disulfide (MoS) and tungsten disulfide (WS), into the hole injection layers (HILs) of OLEDs to enhance their performance. The TMDs, which are known for their superior carrier mobility, optical properties, and 2D layered structure, were doped at levels of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% in PEDOT:PSS-based HILs.

Objective: To investigate the effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) on paroxysmal sympathetic hyperexcitation (PSH) after brain injury.

Methods: A multicenter retrospective study was conducted. Fifty-six patients with PSH who received HBO treatment from four hospitals in Henan Province from January 2021 to September 2023 were selected as the HBO group, and 36 patients with PSH who did not receive HBO treatment from Zhengzhou People's Hospital from May 2018 to December 2020 were selected as the control group.
