Fusobacterium nucleatum is a Gram-negative anaerobe and is one of the causative agents of periodontal diseases, including peri-implantitis. Fusobacterium nucleatum subsp. nucleatum ChDC F316 (KCOM 1322) was isolated from a human peri-implantitis lesion. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of this strain.

is an oral bacterium known to colonize colorectal tumors, where it is thought to play an important role in cancer progression. Recent advances in sequencing and phenotyping of have revealed important differences at the subspecies level, but whether these differences impact the overall tumor ecology, and tumorigenesis itself, remain poorly understood. In this study, we sought to characterize in the tumor microbiome of a cohort of individuals with CRC through a combination of molecular, spatial, and microbiologic analyses.

Cellular senescence has emerged as one of the central hallmarks of aging and drivers of chronic comorbidities, including periodontal diseases. Senescence can also occur in younger tissues and instigate metabolic alterations and dysfunction, culminating in accelerated aging and pathological consequences. Senotherapeutics, such as the combination of dasatinib and quercetin (DQ), are being increasingly used to improve the clinical outcomes of chronic disorders and promote a healthy life span through the reduction of senescent cell burden and senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP).

Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks among the most prevalent malignant tumors globally. Fusobacterium nucleatum and its metabolites are effective biological targets for colon cancer promotion. Probiotics such as Bifidobacterium can block the occurrence and development of CRC by regulating the host intestinal mucosal immunity, eliminating carcinogens, and interfering with tumor cell proliferation and apoptosis.

Unlabelled: A 16-year-old man presented to the Accident and Emergence services with a 10-day history of shortness of breath, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhoea, poor oral intake, chest pain, jaundice, diplopia and reduced urine output. He was initially treated for sepsis, however, subsequent imaging and blood cultures confirmed the diagnosis of Lemierre's syndrome (LS). LS, also known as necrobacillosis or post-pharyngitis anaerobic septicaemia is comprised of a triad of metastatic septic emboli secondary to pharyngitis, bacteraemia, and internal jugular vein thrombophlebitis.

Cancers of the oral cavity, lip, salivary gland, and oropharynx cause substantial global disease burden. While tobacco-use and alcohol use are highly associated with oral cancers, the rising incidence of disease in patients who do not use tobacco or alcohol points to additional carcinogenic risk factors. Chronic inflammation, disruption of the oral microbiome, and dysbiosis are becoming more widely implicated in the pathogenesis of oral cancer.
