Promotion of mental health in children of parents with a mental disorder.

Ann Ist Super Sanita

Dipartimento di Scienze Psicologiche, Umanistiche e del Territorio, Università "G. d'Annunzio", Chieti-Pescara, Italy.

Published: April 2015

Mental disorders are associated with many difficulties in the activities of daily living, work, relationships and family, and they determine high social and economic costs that represent an important public health problem. The literature has shown that children of parents with mental disorders grow up in environments that are potentially harmful to their mental health and are at risk of neglect and maltreatment. Interventions to prevent mental disorders and psychological symptoms of children of parents with mental disorders are effective but supporting these families is a complex task which requires both cooperation between departments and an interdisciplinary knowledge. A greater knowledge of the responses provided to assist families with dependent children and a mentally ill parent, could stimulate reflections on critical issues and government actions aimed at promoting and protecting the mental health of children.

Preliminary Evidence for Perturbation-Based tACS-EEG Biomarkers of Gamma Activity in Alzheimer's Disease.

Int J Geriatr Psychiatry

January 2025

Precision Neuroscience & Neuromodulation Program, Gordon Center for Medical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by impaired inhibitory circuitry and GABAergic dysfunction, which is associated with reduced fast brain oscillations in the gamma band (γ, 30-90 Hz) in several animal models. Investigating such activity in human patients could lead to the identification of novel biomarkers of diagnostic and prognostic value. The current study aimed to test a multimodal "Perturbation-based" transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation-Electroencephalography (tACS)-EEG protocol to detect how responses to tACS in AD patients correlate with patients' clinical phenotype.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effects of Chiglitazar combined with Rosa roxburghii Tratt (RRT) in inpatients diagnosed with psychiatric disorders and antipsychotic-induced metabolic syndrome (MetS).100 cases were included and divided into the Siglitazar group (n=50) and the Siglitazar + RRT group (n=50) Anthropometric measurements, lipid and glucose metabolism indicators, inflammatory markers and PANSS scores were assessed at baseline, 8 weeks and 12 weeks post-treatment. Both treatment groups exhibited significant reductions in waist circumference and improvements in lipid profiles and glucose metabolism indicators over the 12-week study period.
